Brandon Gibson & Dustin Keller: Part of our future?

Gibson did a great job when healthy this year. We definitely want him back.

Keller will likely never be the same player....that was a bad injury. I think we have to move on....

Hartline IMO is the same fall down crap we don't need...

I would love to see these guys come back and fulfill the promise that they showed in limited opportunity last year...but I'm worried that neither would be particularly effective. It's said that players aren't truly 100% until the 2nd year after the severe knee injury, but I'm not sure if that axiom is now outdated by the wonders of modern science.

Do you think our new GM will just want to cut bait on both those guys? I know that Keller is a FA again, anyway, unless I'm mistaken. If he can show health I think we'd be crazy not to at least give him a chance to do something, an extremely incentive-laden contract that would reward him if he's healthy to a point similar or better than what we offered him last season.

As far as Gibson goes, I'm a bit torn. On one hand, he showed great ability and smarts by learning to be an excellent slot-receiver even though he hadn't done it historically. On the other hand, I'm still pissed he fell down for no reason after catching that ball from Tannehill on that 4th and 10 vs Baltimore. The ball hit him in stride and he should've kept right on going to the house for a sick Dolphins victory. Instead, he just fell right down and didn't even get into FG range. I hate when guys fall down for no reason just so they can focus on catching the ball. I'm probably being too harsh because if he would've dropped it, then the game is over right there and then, but still. Part of a receiver's job is to run with the ball after they catch it, not just fall down in order to secure the catch. That's bush-league.

Anyway, now that I've vented, I think the positives of Gibson this year far outweigh that negative, and if he's healthy then he shouldn't be cut, IMO.

Earlier in the year I would have said Matthews did well enough that Gibson coming back isn't completely needed...then Matthews dropped an insanely easy catch and possibly cost Miami a touchdown, momentum, and the playoffs.

Gibson is a no-brainer. I would be very surprised to see Keller back. Side note: as much as we need O-line help, I am hoping we can somehow nab Ebron. This guy is crazy good. With him and Clay, defenses will basically be ****ed especially given our WR corps. However, this is dependent upon what we are able to accomplish in free agency.

The TE can also assist on blocks when Miami runs the ball so I think a seam-threat TE who can also block is just as important as an O-lineman on this team.

I don't think people realize, but Keller's injury might be career ending. I think him being healthy enough at the start of the season is out of the question barring a miracle. He's just hoping he can even play a snap in the nfl ever again.

i think they both are back next year...keller on a one year vet minimum contract...at least makes it to camp imo

In both cases let's see how successful the surgery and rehab goes. I'd be optimistic that BG comes back well, but I'd be surprised if Keller comes back. Hope I'm wrong and he is fit to play. Both appear to be top class guys as well.

I hate seeing anyone suffer an injury, but Brandon's allowed us to see more Rishard Matthews. We now know we have FOUR solid receivers.

Gibson without a doubt. Keller a tentative yes. I still think he brings a lot to our offence, and he should come pretty cheap.

I wonder how Keller is as we speak. If he is walking OK and/or straight-line running at this point, ya never know. A full year of no football might be enough. The problem is that he was the 'receiving TE' and Clay really proved he could own that role. We need a blocking TE with good enough receiving ability to punish a D that over-commits to stopping the run on a given play.
