Brandon Gibson Looks To Be Odd Man Out

Brandon Gibson impressed me almost as much as Charles Clay last year. I don't think he's in trouble. In fact, I think the idea is to have both Gibson and Landry on the field at the same time in the red zone...

Well, we know Armando is NOT convinced Landry is a certain shoe-in to even make the team. He has a pretty good blog that puts the Landry pick in analytical draft history perspective.

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...e-of-analytics-as-part-of-his-regimen-fo.html

I am hoping, like everyone else, that Landry defies the analytical history of his draft position in a big way. However, I think it's foolish to start planning to dump healthy and effective receivers like Gibson, as the OP's article has done, before we see how things play out in camp.
Armando enjoys trying to stir up a controversy. And now he calls on Dr Smith and his analysis. (Is this the same Dr Smith who was Lost In Space?)
Anyone who watches the Landry videos can see his toughness and ability to catch the ball is incredible. He is a flat out likely future star and you are a total idiot if you cannot see it. OK this confirms what some of us have suspected in Armando for some time.
Landry is the most exciting Dolphin WR draft pick in the past 20 years (and don't tell me drafting Ted Ginn Jr gave you a boner). I predict that Jarvis Landry will quickly become a big Dolphin fan favorite. I love the pick.
Prediction - Armando and Dr Smith are wrong again!

I thought Gibson played well last year. I can understand cutting him if he cant return to form after injury, but cutting a decent WR to save a couple million dollars? I'm not so sure about that. I see Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Landry as the top 4, with the rest fighting it out for #5.

Agreed! Gibson and RT had something going last year. I think the Fins know they can't get in a situation like they did when Hartline went down against the Jets. Without him and Gibson, they were toast.

The Dolphins have attempted to trade Wallace, but with his exorbitant $17.5 million cap figure for 2014, it’s impossible

this is really getting annoying.

there is NO PROOF that the fins have been trying to trade wallace. if so, some other team who tried to get him would have mentioned it somewhere. hasnt happened.

some writer came up with that about a month ago and everyone ran with it. the team denied it. and why would they deny? it makes wallace look more in demand. and if the "well, he is to expensive with the 17 zillion a week he makes", then dont you think dawn aponte and hickey already know that and wouldnt even attempt? YES!! HE IS WAY TO EXPENSIVE TO TRADE!! NO ONE CAN TAKE THAT SALARY!! so that being said, the finz wouldnt even bother. but, according to the wallace haters, every team in the leauge was offered the trade.

and why would they trade him? the only REAL issue with wallace [besides the salary, no fault of hickeys] is having a qb that cant connect with him. he is one of the few players in the nfl that just being on the field makes defenses play different. just like brandon marshall was. he is one of the top 3 biggest threats in the nfl and if tanny can learn the long ball, wallace will finish his career in a dolphins uni.

this trying to trade wallace stuff is PURE FICTION with absolutely NO CREDIBILITY!!! it was one writers "hey, look at me! i got some scoop and my rag needs ratings post and everyone ran with it but found NO proof in doing so.

SO STOP!!!!!! if this thing with tanny changes this year, wallace will re structure to stay around.

I googled DJ Siddiq and he is a "writer" for Bleacher Report and Rant Sports...which means he's no different than you and me, except he apparently has a lot more time on his hands. I'm actually itching to tweet him and ask about his source on the Mike Wallace trade attempts, but nothing good would come of that...

rant sports is actually much worse than bleacher report

Absolutely. People also forget that we only carried four wide receivers on the roster last year.

Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Landry, Matthews. Many teams carry a 6th WR, and in that case, it would probably be Armon Binns. I see the guy we drafted from Coastal Carolina as a PS type of player to start with.

I do think it is Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace who are in trouble long term, not Gibson, even if they are under contract.

would have loved to have seen an armondo write up of MARK CLAYTON coming out of the draft.

i cant believe why anyone is giving any print to armondo's "analytic's". armondo and analytic do not belong in the same sentence!!

**** off Armando...

HE see a general consensus that people like him as a player so he's going to use it to drum up views....****ing hack journalism...

I do think it is Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace

wallace and hartline were 30 YARDS away from being a pair of 1,000 yd wr's. hartline had yet another 1,000 yd season.

and even with the crappy o-line and NO run game and predictable play calling [due to no run game] and a qb who cant consistently hit on the deep ball, those two still had great production. can you imagine if all those things were not happening? when i go back and watch the tivo'd games, wallace would have had 9 more absolute td's than he had if the ball would have gotten there or if tanny had even seen him and a few more that probably would have. several times WIDE, WIDE open and tanny threw underneath instead or to someone else. it was that bad. and he missed big plays to hartline also. TOM BRADY would give his eye teeth for mike wallace OR brian hartline and he would make pro bowlers out of both.

i like tanny, a lot. this is not a bash, but, if one will go back and watch the games with an open eye, he still has some real issues that need to change.

:bobdole:

Fins finally have a stacked WR roster. Lets not mess it up.

Wallace, Hartline, Gibson, Matthews, Landry, Binns....nice 6

If we keep 6 I think hazel wins that spot

I don't see Gibson leaving this year...depth if nothing else...last year we felt the injuries at wideout.

I do think Landry will beat him out at slot though.

Everyone last year was saying we are SET, SET, SET at WR and look how far in the season that lasted. We are set for this year and can plan to move wallace in 2015. Someone will need a WR and will be willing to give us a good player in exchange before it is all said and done, too.

You. Never. Have. Enough. Skill. Position. Offensive. Players. Burn that thought into your heads.

Wallace, Hartline, Gibson and Matthews serve as Miami’s primary veteran receivers.
The Dolphins have attempted to trade Wallace, but with his exorbitant $17.5 million cap figure for 2014, it’s impossible to envision a scenario where the ‘Fins get rid of Wallace before the 2014 season. Hartline is a productive receiver who signed a five-year deal in the 2013 offseason. Matthews is a young receiver who has a cap hit of just $583,000 in 2014. Barring a bad training camp, Matthews won’t be going anywhere.
Which leaves the veteran Gibson, who suddenly looks expendable. Gibson has a cap hit of $3.7 million in 2014, with a signing bonus of $1 million. If the Dolphins were to release Gibson with two years left on his contract, it would result in a dead money hit of just $2 million total over the next two seasons. It would save the team $2.7 million and $3.2 million on the cap in 2014 and 2015.
Other veteran receivers such as Armon Binns and Damian Williams will also compete for roster spots when training camp begins. With Wallace, Hartline and Landry having roster spots locked up, that leaves two open receiver spots. The Dolphins won’t keep Gibson around to be a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver. Those spots will be reserved for young guys like Matthews and Hazel who have potential and can contribute on special teams.
Minicamp has yet to begin, and it already looks as if Gibson’s days in South Florida are coming to an end.

That'd be pretty foolish.

It all comes down to this, putting Tannehill in the best possible position to develop and succeed. We're not going to get rid of one of our best receivers for unspectacular receivers because they can play special teams. We have Hartline and Gibson that we can count on. Wallace's chemistry with Tannehill is unreliable at this point. And we don't know what we have in Landry yet. I like Damian Williams as much as anyone else. But he won't take Gibson's spot unless he shows something special in the offseason and preseason.

Surround Tannehill with talent, and protect him. That's what this year is about. We need to see if he has what it takes so that we can stick with him or move on.

Damian Williams unless it's a return job shouldn't beat out anyone...Mathews is dirt cheap I'm sure that may play in...might be Gibby odd man out but that's an ideal east west slot guy...then again Landry provides a little of Gibby and Mathews from there...east west and vertical...

Should make for a hell of a training camp and preseason

I think Gibson should stay. Before his injury he was arguably our best receiver last season. The guy just makes plays. If anyone should go it should be Binns.
