Watching NFL Network and reports are that Braylon Edwards has signed a 5-year 40 million dollar deal...Half of which is guaranteed money.

thanks man r.brown needs to sign soon very soon he can not afford to miss anymore time if he expects to start opening day........

From the reports I have been reading, the dolphins do not want to pay Ronnie much more than 20 mil is guaranteed money. If Edwards got 20m guaranteed for a 5 year contract, it would seem the dolphins would have to shell out about 1-1.5 million more in guaranteed money.

Todd France and the Dolphins I believe have already settled on $19.5 million in guarantees. Only thing holding it up now are the incentives.

Nub, this is what I read also. Something to do with Caddy's contract and his incentives which can reach in the range of 2 million. Also, I read that France wanted Ronnie to get a 6 year deal and the Fins want a 5 year.

From what I understand, the guarantee money is settled.

Yeah, I think they are now ok with the $19.5 million because it is over 5 years instead of 6.

This is the article:

Nub, whats your thoughts on Kay Jay making the team? You know, he reminded me of Keith Byars some, especially when he caught the pass and took it up field.

I really think it will be hard for him to make the final roster. I see him more of a PS guy this year then actually making the roster. We just have a lot of quality players that might push Kay Jay out the door.

Ronnie had better be worth it, cause if he is just a mediocre NFL talent, that is a lot of money to dump into nothing.

The NFL needs to get this fixed.

Why not just do this:

ALL first round selections get three year contracts. Start with the number one pick getting 5 million signing, and 1 million a year salary. After three years they have the right to be free agents, and if they are worth the money, then some team can fork out sick dollars for them. This allows the rookie to prove his worth over a three year period, still pays them more money than any of us will ever see, and gets them on the market in the prime of their career.

Makes sense doesn't it?

I guarentee he would rather a 5 than a 6 year deal.

Nothing is settled until the it is signed and the cheque has been cashed. I sincerely doubt that the agent for Brown will settle for less than Edwards has gotten, that is bad for business, unless it is specific instructions from his client to settle and get into camp.

Nope.

The important element is the length of the contract. France and Brown had been hoping for a higher guaranteed to go with a six-year deal. The Dolphins countered with the lower guarantee but a shorter contract so Brown may become an unrestricted free agent after five years instead of six.
