It seems to me that the Fins get pressure on the opposing QB and then all of a sudden they get tired and the pass rush gets non-existent when the game is on the line.

I decided to breakdown the sacks this year by quarter to see if there was and evidence to supports this theory.

Currently we have 19 sacks this year. That projects to 43.4 sacks over a 16 game season. Last year we had 40 and the year before we had 30. So we do have a slight improved pass rush from last year.

Here are the sack totals by quarter
Q1-3
Q2-7
Q3-5
Q4-4

It does seem from the stats that we are slow to get started and then we tail off at the end of the game. Obviously in the latest Jet game the defense was definitely tired at the end. They spent most of the 3rd quarter on the field due to the 3 return TD's

I really loved the play of Starks at the end of the Jet game. He stopped the QB draw from Sanchez on 2nd down. This play has been our nemesis over the last 10 games in the red zone. Then on 3rd down he beat Faneca and sacked Sanchez. Then he still wasn't done. He broke through on 4th down and forced Sanchez to throw the ball thru the back of the endzone.

Another part that these stats show. All of the second half sacks are from D lineman and hybrid linebackers. All of the successful saftey blitzes have come in the 1st and 2nd quarter. This may sorta point to PP taking his foot off the defensive gas pedal.

Thoughts?

This is the area of the game that has not developed yet and if it continues we to be anemic we will be an 8 and 8 team.

On the other hand if we can begin to have players get hot and play like Starks we can be good, maybe even a playoff team.

In order to beat NE we must be in Brady's face all day or forget about it.

Agreed, he can put up 21 points in a quarter easily if we have any lapses on the pass rush.

I'd say this breakdown is pretty much bunk...the totals are simply random happenstance.

I understand what you're trying to do, but he sample size just isn't large enough to draw any reasonable conclusions.

I do agree however that to beat the pats you have to get pressure on Brady...he's a system quarterback that performs extremely well with time to look over the field. Put pressure on him and he folds...it's that simple.

if we could get a couple hits on brady, like wilson put on the jest QB.. I think will be OK..PS I know who there QB is, I just feel dirty saying his name :)

If you notice we dont blitz in the second half. Its an ideal strategy.

How about Paslaquoni's play calling. Remember the Saints game? the defense were getting alot of pressure in the first half because of the exotic blitzes. But in the 2nd half, the pressure was non-existent because Paslaquoni started rushing just 4 guys.

I think he stopped blitzing beacuse the Saints had adjusted to it..

They were doing alot of 3 step drops against the blitz early....

and it was not working Brees had alot of tipped passes...Saints were doing nothing that is

Plus When we did blitz we got burned...in the 2nd half..

You can only hope to stop a good offense so many times in a game..

They are gonna get some in..They Blitzed on that long play to Shockey..

So to me it was just that he was calling the wrong plays at the wrong time..

It happens...Football can be a chess match
