Breakdown on Dion Jordons impact on Wakes strip-sack

Could have used anyone to cover the back out of the backfield...I'd like to see DJ be used as a pass rusher. Granted, with Wake and OV playing well, we don't really need DJ in that capacity, but that is what he was drafted to do...you don't move up to #3 in the draft to get a guy to cover a back out of the backfield.

I think you're missing the point: You could not have used "anyone" to cover the RB out of the backfield and 1. Caused Ben to trust that as his first read, or 2. Caused the guard to hesitate, isolating Wake one on one. Have a good passrusher able to drop into coverage like that fooled two people on that play: Ben and the OG, creating mismatch and hesitation and ending in a strip sack.

This is where Coyle NEEDS to step up. IF I see slow Ellerbe or Wheeler trying to cover that guy out the field one on one. Then it will be obvious Coyle didn't attempt to do Jack-Sqaut in terms of preperation for that guy.

I like Dion, But Vereen is way too quick,agile and fast for him.

If anything Vereen comes across like D.Sproles lets see if we learned anything from tryin to cover that guy.

I keep reading that DJ is bad against the run, but he looks like a decent edge setter to me.

I watched the short cuts (30 minute cutup of every play) last night and thought OV looked like a complete liability in run d. RBs got outside of him constantly.

expect more of this on sunday. the pats love to run picks and with a viable product like dion jordan being able to zone blitz gives miami a huge advantage vs the dink and dunk nature of tom brady. damn, this week could be special

Right, with the emergence of OV we have way too many pass rushers..yet we move up to three, basically using two draft picks, and you guys get giddy when he covers a back out of the backfield....

I don't share that idea. Of course DJ was drafted to rush the passer, but he's also a fine TE cover. He's valuable to nullify big TE like Rob Gronkowski. The issue on him has been his lack of readiness to stop the run. DJ needs to add some muscle in order to become the best piece of this defense.
By the way, its hard to find someone to cover the back out of the backfield. This talent is so rare to find that it leads to increase the impact of athletic and strong TE.

I get it, he can help cover Gronk. But that's not why they moved up to 3 to get him, besides everyone knows the way to beat the Pats is to knock Brady on his ass, like the Giants did in the Superbowl. And in the original post, it is about him covering a back out of the backfield, not Gronk. With Gronk's injury history he may not be an issue for much longer anyway.

its called disguise. They have done this with Jordan in many different ways. and having a 6'6" dude covering a Rb who is athletic is a matchup I love.

Dion Jordan has a lot of potential (he's a freak combination of size, speed and athleticism) unfortunately he would be much better suited for a 3-4....I never understood the pick from that stand point, but hope that in the offseason the team can find a position or a role that is more then situational.

Now that kinda makes sense!! But being impressed with a kid that covers an average back in the flat on a quick read is not anything to write home about....

Wow...how did you come to that conclusion? Covering a back out of the backfield is being a play maker in your world...

Even from watching clips from his Oregon days, it's obvious that Jordan has never been a 'pin the ears back and rush the QB guy'. I think he could do Wheeler's job better than Wheeler right now. His height draws obvious comparisons to Jason Taylor and I think a lot of people (myself included) fancied himself as a player like Julius Peppers. He's best right now as a rover. A guy that the offense has no clue on how to guard against. I think he's the only one who can stop himself by misreading a play or assignment or whatever. As he learns offenses and situations, he'll get the sense on the knowing the best way to attack the offense on any given play, and he'll pretty much be a mismatch for any offensive player if he diagnoses the play correctly.

Just imagine how good of a 'spy' he could be for running QBs.
