A breakdown of the new Dolphins, with their former team, height and weight:
• DT Randy Starks, Titans, 6-3, 312: A thick, powerful frame allows Starks to line up at nose tackle. He is versatile and strong.
• LB Charlie Anderson, Texans, 6-4, 243: He has size and moderate speed, but Anderson has been relegated mostly to special teams because he lacks athleticism.
• LB Reggie Torbor, Giants, 6-2, 250: He started the last nine games for the Giants' memorable season at outside linebacker, and was perhaps as effective as the injured starter (Mathias Kiwanuka) he replaced.
• WR Ernest Wilford, Jaguars, 6-4, 223: He has the height and physicality to be a starter in the league, but must continue to improve his route running.
• QB Josh McCown, Raiders, 6-4, 213: He never was able to grasp the starting job, but has the tools to get him there.
• G Justin Smiley, 49ers, 6-3, 311: He's a smart player who plays with good fundamentals, but he must work on his leverage if he wants to overpower opponents.
• TE Sean Ryan, Jets, 6-5, 265: An average player with limited experience, Ryan will be a developmental project because of his size and potential.
• NT Jason Ferguson, Cowboys, 6-3, 310: A major pickup via trade, Ferguson is exactly the type of big, powerful tough player Bill Parcells loves.
