Quarterbacks (2): Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore

Comment: The Dolphins, as expected, released Josh Freeman and McLeod Bethel-Thompson and will enter the season with two quarterbacks for the second consecutive season.

Running backs (4): Lamar Miller, Damien Williams, LaMike James, Jay Ajayi

Comment: The Dolphins might have entered the season with four running backs regardless of Ajayi’s health. We reported yesterday that Ajayi broke his rib in Thursday’s preseason finale but is expected to remain on the active roster. The Dolphins don’t want to put him on the injured reserve list.

Receivers (6): Jarvis Landry, DeVante Parker, Greg Jennings, Kenny Stills, Rishard Matthews, Matt Hazel

Comment: The Dolphins really had no choice but to keep six receivers. Hazel is a young talented player they don’t want to lose. Matthews and Jennings might not be back in 2016 and Hazel could become the team’s fourth receiver in a year.

Tight ends (2): Jordan Cameron, Dion Sims

Comment: The Dolphins didn’t see enough out of any of their reserve tight ends to keep a third. Don’t be surprised if they add someone in the next couple of days. It’s also possible they enter the season with just two tight ends and keep a third on the practice squad.

Offensive line (9): Branden Albert, Dallas Thomas, Mike Pouncey, Jamil Douglas, Ja’Wuan James, Jason Fox, Billy Turner, Jeff Linkenbach, Jacques McClendon

Comment: When J.D. Walton was released last week, Brenner thought he was in as the team’s backup center. But the Dolphins have instead kept McClendon.
Linebackers (7): Kelvin Sheppard, Koa Misi, Jelani Jenkins, Chris McCain, Zach Vigil, Spencer Paysinger, Neville Hewitt

Comment: The biggest surprise here is undrafted rookie Hewitt beating out Mike Hull and Jordan Tripp. Vigil, also an undrafted rookie, has looked like a lock for weeks. Paysinger could be a key player on special teams.

Defensive backs (11): Brent Grimes, Jamar Taylor, Will Davis, Zack Bowman, Brice McCain, Bobby McCain, Tony Lippett, Reshad Jones, Walt Aikens, Michael Thomas, Jordan Kovacs

Comment: It’s a lopsided group of DBs with seven cornerbacks and four safeties. Kovacs beat out Don Jones for a special teams role. Safety Ced Thompson, a rookie fifth-round draft pick, didn’t make the cut but would be an ideal practice squad player if no one picks him up.

OK, so MBT gone. That makes a tad more sense.

McCleod Bethel-Thompson has been cut. Dolphins going with two QBs.

I think they should take a look at Joseph Fauria as a 3d TE.

Ced Thompson must have truly does nothing to get best out by Kovacs.

I feel like we have 5 starting quality WRs. It'd be nice to be able to trade one of them for a starting quality RG or MLB, but whatever. Can't have studs at every position. Let's ****in go!

Looked terrible to me.

We've been trying to trade Matthews for two years.
