per John Clayton:
"Brees-Dolphins talks put off till Tuesday: The Dolphins and quarterback Drew Brees are expected to resume negotiations Tuesday. Brees left Miami on Monday evening for Birmingham, Ala., where he's rehabbing his right shoulder under the watchful eye of Dr. James Andrews, who performed the operation in January.
Contract talks between the Dolphins and Brees' agent, Tom Condon, did not take place because Brees spent the day undergoing a battery of doctors' tests. He underwent so many that he had to visit at least two different facilities to be tested. Not only did doctors perform an MRI on his shoulder, but the Dolphins gave Brees a full physical.
The hangup between Brees and the Dolphins is how much of a contract will be guaranteed. The Saints are believed to be offering more money and more guarantees than the Dolphins, who are wary of guaranteeing $10 million of his contract after he came off shoulder surgery."

So everyone can relax, Miami is doing its homework. If Brees wasn't going to be a dolphin he would have signed with the Saints already, IMO.
also per Clayton:
"On the Culpepper front: It's still down to the Dolphins to try to get the Vikings to trade Daunte Culpepper. The Titans are out. The Raiders haven't made any offers. The Dolphins really don't want to give Minnesota a second-round choice, but they might have to if they can't get a Drew Brees deal done. Stay tuned. "
"Kicking up a storm? Monday's most interesting visit was Mike Vanderjagt in Miami. Olinda Mare is the Dolphins' $2 million-a-year kicker, but if they like Vanderjagt, there could be a change ... Patriots wide receiver David Givens visited the Titans but wasn't ready to decide which team will get him to sign a contract. Givens wanted to spend an extra day getting to know Nashville before he made his final decision. He could go back to the Patriots. He's also visited Miami and Houston."

Brees didn't go through this in nola. He is SERIOUS about being with the Dolphins if he would put himself through this regimen of tests.

Everyone step back and take a deep breath. Brees will be our guy.

The problem with this board is that so many 16 and 17-year-olds are in here who think this process is analogous to asking a girl to the prom. "I want to know by tonight or I'm dumping you and asking someone else!!!"

Dame un "break", amigos.

We are talking $60 million dollars here. This entire board PUT TOGETHER will never see that kind of $$$. BOTH sides need to know exactly what they are getting.

I agree that IF Brees just wanted the "more money", he would be in nola. But he is PROLONGING his meetings with the Dolphins and they will reach a deal, I am sure.

thanks for the info man. seems like the only good up to date info i've seen for a while. makes sense too. IMO i pray to the football gods we don't get vanderjat. that guy is a jack-*ss to the media, i'm sure his arrogance is not appreciated in the locker room either. I don't want to see olindo mare gone. he's got lots of game left.

60 million?

Man i hope for your sakes that his shoulder heals properly. But id be surprised if he was ready by midseason. I think that is best case scenario and i dont care what Drew says......he said plenty to us that wasnt true...like his rotator cuff was not damaged when in fact, it was.

Good luck . I like the guy.

In my experience...and by that i mean watching football....free agents that leave...usually never come back. I think we might have lost out on Brees. I know it says that he was just here for a physical/tour...but i have no doubts they discussed the contracts.....i think he might be gone forever.
