i know there has been a million brees threads started......but, if we move towards signing him, do you think it will be on march 3 (the day FA starts), or will it take a few weeks?

Saban will move as quickly as he can, assuming of course he wants Brees...

depends on a lot of factors. CBA for one. but also if Saban feels that another team signing Brees might help Cutler fall to us, he might pass on Brees. it also depends on what Brees and his agent are looking for, there might be ongoing negotiations if he asks for too much out of the gate.

I honestly don't think Brees will sign right away. I hope I am wrong, but I think it may be like March 6th or March 7th before he signs.

lol.. Doubt he signs right away. More like March 24, on my birthday :p, after he explored all possibilities. Don't think Drew Brees has put any thought into signing into a different team. Right now his main focus is to sign with the Chargers.

I hope we do land him though. I love the guy, he is one of the most accurate QB's in the league and can match up well against almost any defense.

I would be shocked if we signed him the day free agency starts. Depending on how much he is being pursued by other teams, I think that Saban will wait to see what some of the other teams will do with their QB's (Titans, Redskins) that may give us some leverage on Brees.

I agree that signing immediately is unlikely, but I don't think it will take until March 24th (Happy early Birthday BTW). I think Brees is a bit more realistic about the type of contract he can sign given the question amrks about the shoulder. I also think that if he must sign SanDiego, he will be anxious to get on with it. Knowing Drew the way most Charger fans know him, he'll leave the press conference (announcing his signing) with a playbook in his hand and probably pull an all nighter studying it.

But I will say this: I don't know if it's fair to you guys - and we'll probably never know this publicly - but when Brees is close to an acceptable contract offer, he and Condon will take that back to the Chargers and ask them if they can match or come close. Brees feels like he built that team, and he is not happy to not be a part of it going forward.

He'd be a fool, Marty Shottenheimer has proven that he is good at leading teams to winning records but little playoff success.

While Saban has only been in the league a year as a head man, I think most people can see this is an organization heading back to the top, it will surpass the Chargers as a contender in 2006.

No that would be loyalty. I believe buckeyebolt has it exactly right. He will use the market to set his price and the bolts will decide to pass or pay. So we would have to give him a mind blowing contract (he is injured remember?), or SD would have to let their ego stand in the way(not out of the realm of possiblity). My guess is that he pulls a John Randal on us, and finheaven flames once again!

march 3rd, 1201am... contract on the table

there will be some questions about his shoulder. Miami should open the negotiations at 12:01 with a mid-range/low-ball offer if they know what's best, and our doctors ought to be talking to their doctors. With the time it'll take to negotiate up to market value, we should be able to get a fix on how his shoulder is progressing.

If rehap really is going well, I am perplexed as to why San Diego let him walk, rather than trading Rivers. Seems like a dumb move to me. But this may end up being one of our important free agent signings in the last few years.

random guess is march 21st however i would not be surprised to see saban go right after brees the minute after FA begins if he feels 100% sure that brees is the guy

I wish this thread was called "Brees on March Threes" because it would be so corny I would snicker.

i think Drew Brees will be a dolphin next year, with out a doubt. Nick Saban is looking for a playoff young quarterback and Drew Brees is a perfect fit for Miami. Brees will have another beast at Tight end for him to throw to and he will have Chris Chambers AND.....he will have another LT in the back ground behind him......Ronnie Brown!!!!!!!!!!!
