If a new CBA deal isn't passed, Gus will probably be cut, which leaves us with only Cleo Lemon at QB. (Sage is a FA) This probably means we will HAVE to get Brees unless we trade for or draft a QB, and Gus is better than every FA QB out there (except Brees). I trust that Nick Saban has a good plan regarding QB.

Yeah I deffinately think that the coaching staff have someone in mind..........

Plus, I think they'll take a QB on the first day somewhere. That would give us the veteran FA, Cleo as backup, and a rookie to learn.

Mort just said in his last update if there is no CBA, then Gus is gone.:wink:

I suspect we'll draft a QB regardless of whether we get Brees or not. Developing your draft picks is the most long-term cost-efficient strategy, not making huge splashes every year in the free agent market. We'll need another QB no matter what.
If we get Brees we'll probably draft a QB in the later rounds, probably round 3 or 4 (unless Vince Young falls to us). Omar Jacobs is probably the best value there, but needs at least a couple years of coaching.

I agree and Omar Jacobs looks like he would be a very Nice NFL QB in a couple of years

I agree. I think we definitely need to a draft a QB no matter what (Even though I really want to see us get Brees). However, I don't think there's even a possibility of Vince sliding to us. Omar Jacobs looks good, but Whitehurst wouldn't be bad either.

I think he is interesting for sure, aside from the drip obout his throwing motion. Brees update on NFL network now, Sun 7pm.

I'm tired of picking up other teams back-up QBs. We haven't had a "signature" QB since Dan retired.

kitna is a starting QB on most teams in the league...and id take him over brees.

Kitna=Younger version of Frerotte
Brees=Franchise, Pro bowl QB

Kitna might be a backup plan if we don't sign Brees

so brees is a franchise QB whos team drafted a QB with their #1 pick? and who they are now letting this "franchise" qb become a Free agent? ...hmm sounds right.
