pat kirwan on www.nfl.com says it'll take about 6 years /48m with 15-16m guaranteed...about 5m in the 1st year which we will be able to afford with or without a cba...he said a gm says about 20 teams should look at a 27 year old qb who has thrown 51tds and 22 ints over the last 2 years...we have to get brees!

I dont know about the money side too much and if we can afford Brees, but i know if we can afford him then we should go all out to get him signed. Anyone think he will sign for us quickly or it will drag out if other teams show interest?

He might but I think he sees whats happening down in Miami. You know he licking his chops at the prospect of qb'ing for our fins.

sign him up

Should have drafted him when we had the chance

thanks wanny

I still have nightmares about that one.:shakeno:

Great avatar fins1. I remember seeing that pic in a paperback I had when I was a kid...."Griese/Csonka", or something simple along those lines.

a pro bowler is gonna command some money, but its a big time need for us guys. id pay it, and we need to make the offer at 12:01 the second free agency starts, i dont want any other teams to take a shot on him

First second of free agency we need to sign this guy.

If he gets that kind of money I would be shocked. If you go to the pet store and want to buy one of those expensive birds (you know... the one's that cost thousands of dollars), you don't pay full price if one of it's wings is busted... do you? He's coming off a pretty serious injury and Saban is not paying top dollar for someone he's not even all that excited about.

When did you hear Saban say anything about not being excited about Brees?

I agree that that would be quite a chunk of change without knowing if Brees will ever return to form. But if it seems that he will and is cleared by Miami doctors, we are going to have to bite the bullet someday cash wise for a QB.

Jason Cole from the Miami Herald said that Saban wasn't too excited about the kid's arm strength BEFORE the injury. Sorry, I can't give you a link because we just talked about it on his forum. Anyway... we'll see. I do however think he's the best option out there as far as QB FA's, but I'm not sure if he's worth that much in signing. If we do, there better be a $#!T load of clauses in that contract.

To get talent, you have to pay for talent.
Dont let the price tag fool you. Its like those $20 shoes. You could buy themfor cheap and say they are good, but you get more bang for you buck with the $60 pair because they are better, last longer, ect.
Same principle here. We should shell out some money to a top 10 QB because it isa better investment than a cheap QB

You see a cheaper QB compared to Brees and think "Wow, he may be just as good as the more expensive!" and the price make you take a QB that isnt as productive.

Thats a terrible comparison.
