I've already seen posts with people mentioning the possibility of us drafting Brohm or Brennan next year for QB.

My question to all of you is can you really see the Phins drafting 2 1st round caliber QB's 2 years in a row? (I say 1st round because the Phins valued him as a late 1st round talent and proved it by trying to trade back into the 1st round to grab him.)

I don't see it being even remotely possible because any team knows that even a top QB prospect takes time to develop and mature. You may very well not know until year 3 what the potential ceiling of that pick may be.

IMO there's no way the Phins or any other team is going to spend a 1st round pick the year after they invested a high pick on a prospect they feel may very well be their franchise QB.

Please note that this should not turn into a debate as to Beck's potential.
Whether you like the pick or not it's obvious that Mueller and Cameron are very high on Beck. The question is whether a GM and coach would spend a 1st round pick 1 year after they feel they found a top QB.

*EDIT* Please also disregard my superb wording of the poll question. I had to whiz and was rushing through it knowing you only have so much time to post a poll before it cuts you off. Despite the way the poll question is worded, I'm not Rain Man.

Mueller and Cameron have shown an affinity for June Jones's players and Jones has already said that he feels COlt Brennan has first pick of the draft ability. If Brennan is available next year how could anyone be shocked?

Well, all I'll say on this is if we were to have a ridiculously high pick next year, and the BPA was a highly touted QB that we thought was great, we'd probably take him. You'd be stupid not to. The only alternative would be to trade down...and that is always contingent upon someone wanting to trade up to your pick.

if they draft a qb in the first rd that means that Beck plays a lot this year to get a look at what they have. at some point they should get it right - power by numbers

Next year our pick will be a tackle, either baker of usc or the jake long from michigan. No way we take a qb even if it's the best of the draft. Beck is our guy and that's not gonna change in 1 year unless he plays horrible for the whole season or if he injures either his knees or throwing arm.

I hope Culpepper returns to his old self or Beck proves to be our future QB...I dont want to draft a QB in the 1st round next year.

I would be thrilled to have Colt Brennan competing for the starting job against John Beck, I don't see that far enough, it could actually happen, since Cam is a QB guru and had done this before (Brees, Rivers).

So, as for now, I wouldn't mind spending another 2nd round pick in the next year's draft to pick him.

As for now, It wouldn't surprise me if Cam pulls the trigger and gets him in the first (exact thing San Diego did and gave result), Brees was taken on the second round and then Rivers was taken in the first after they already had Brees, if thats what it takes to have a franchise QB, It wouldn't bother me at all...

Depends on what happens with Culpepper and Green. Assuming we get Green after he is cut and we then cut Cpep, that leaves us with Green, Beck and Lemon this time next year, with Green getting ever nearer to retiring (or being knocked out sparko). If a decent QB falls to us in the 1st round then having another QB for Green to groom for possibly his last season would make a lot of long term sense - Beck should then be more of a known quantity. I dont think that there would be the urgency that there was this year though.

Hey, and what are the odds of them falling to 32nd pick anyway :)

This is an impossible scenerio so there is really no reason to discuss it.

1) Brohm should be a top 5 pick

2) The super bowl champions always draft last so I dont see us trading that far up to get him. Brohm could go to Atlanta after their 4-12 season.

they had Brees for years and didnt believe that he would pan out-and when they got Rivers Brees kicked it into gear and became a better QB and a better leader. Dont for one second think that if Brees wasnt given the chance and failed for a couple of years that they would have drafted Rivers

If Brohm/Brennan is as good as everyone thinks, and we can pick one of them up in the first round, we're stupid not to. So what if we drafted a QB with our second round pick this year? There's no guarantees on him...so, I guess we just pick a worse player with our pick next year? Drafting the PBA gives you great flexiblity. If Beck turns out to be great, and we had Bohm/Brennan there too, we could trade them to some other team for picks/players. If Beck turns out to be not what they thought, then they have Bohm/Brennan to step in and play. It all evens out in the end. However, we better not be in a position to take either one of them in the first round next year.

It wouldn't be at all like what San Diego did with Rivers.

Brees was 3 years removed from his draft, he had been given a window of opportunity and the Bolts had pretty much given up on him when they brought in Rivers.

HUGE difference here then if they had Drafted Brees with a high 2nd round pick in 2001 and then drafted a QB with a first round pick in 2002 without ever seeing what Brees had to offer. Different scenario here altogether.

Cant Beck supposedly throw through the uprights from the halfway from off his knees anyway?

Dammit, make him play...
