MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers fired manager Ned Yost on Monday, hoping to pull out of another late-season slump that has jeopardized the team's chance of making the playoffs for the first time since 1982.

Third-base coach Dale Sveum will take over as interim manager for the remainder of the season. The Brewers have lost seven of eight and fallen into a tie with Philadelphia for the NL wild-card lead.

It marked the first time in major league history -- except the strike-split 1981 season -- that a manager was fired in August or later with his team in playoff position, the Elias Sports Bureau said.
At 83-67, the Brewers have just 12 games to rebound.

And if they miss the playoffs with the Interim Skipper, what happens then?

I have been a critic of Yost the past few years...He was never the right man for the job...He was coaching this team to save his own *** rather than to get us to the playoffs...But IMO, too little, too late.

But still, you fire the guy to spark your team in the last 2 weeks. So what happens if they don't make the playoffs? He would've been let go for no reason .

Now if what you're saying is true or if he stinks, that's different. But the Brewers made a statement saying he was let go b/c they were slumping.

No im telling you Yost has been making questionable calls for the better part of 6 years. The straw that broke the camels back. Sunday against the Phillies, two outs runner on third. Our lefty specialist Brain Shouse intentionally walks Ryan Howard, who is hitting .210 against lefties on the year. Then Pat Burrell who hits above .300 against lefties hits a bomb and ruins the Brewers chances.

Yost did a good job getting young players to play good ball. But now when its time to get the Brewers to the next level he has come up short for the Brewers.

Yost was gone after this season anyways. So why not fire him now and see if it can spark some life back into the club??

It's easier to fire one guy than 25 for a team not performing. In most places Yost wouldn't of even gotten as much as he has. The thing is if the Brewers had gotten a real closer instead of Gagne they wouldn't be in this position.

I disagree with making the move so late in the year. The Mets fired Randolph in a backwards way but if you're going to let a guy go, do it sooner. The only time I can really recall it working late in the year was in the NHL I think with the Devils one year.
