Brian Hartline is overrated

hartline seems to be a bigger tougher receiver.. gates bess marshall and hartline are locks, i wish we could have gotten another playmaker but now im starting to see things clearer..reggie bush is gonna be used alot as a reciever as well so theres no drop off...

On top of those stats, he was a 4th round draft pick.

Though I guess Hartline was just next in line to get a thread bashing him. Every other player and coach has a thread saying they "suck" or are "overrated", so it was only a matter of time. Next up, "Wake is overrated" or maybe "Randy Starks is overpaid".

So because he exceeded draft expectations he deserves to be gifted a permanent starting job? Interesting logic.

MYTH BUSTED

Problem with Hartline isn't that he's not any good, it's that he doesn't get enough targets to get production. I think these are 2009 numbers, but they're comparable to his peers.

Maclin 55rec, 762 yds, 4 TD in 90 targets
Garcon 47 rec, 765 yds 4 TD in 92 targets
Hartline 31 rec, 506 yds, 3 TD in 56 targets
 
and one more thing... a lot of times the reason Henne holds on to the ball so long and checks it down is because Hartline really struggles to get open. He is not the type of WR you can throw the ball to when covered and expect him to come away with the ball. Everything has to be perfect with Hartline in order for the play to work. He is the classic definition of functional and the total opposite of playmaker.

He doesn't get targets because he can't get open and he's not the type of receiver that comes away with the ball when he is covered so the QB will NEVER throw him the ball when he is covered.

I have seen Hartline not come back to the ball numerous occasions - he also doesn't want to make the difficult catches like Bess or Camarillo
 
I´m with Lebatard. I want Hartline and Fazano on a hot air balloon that lands on a CFL huddle...
 
Are you guys watching the same receiver? Hartline, the guy who has deceptive quickness and has a knack for getting open (better than the practice squad rejects like Moore and Wallace who everyone was clamoring to come in)

He has great hands, he has decent enough speed, and he's a great route runner. He is why we traded away Camarillo - because having two of them made no sense, so you keep the more athletic one

I was at this game and lost my **** when this happened. Then lost my **** again when Henne threw the game losing INT.
 
How come only white guys are "deceptively quick"? Problem you guys have is that's he's white and doesn't play the slot.

The problem I have with Hartline is that I don't see him as a deep threat. That may be in part because we just don't seem to throw deep, but I think that is partly because of Hartline just plain not having the straightline speed. I know he is supposed to be fast, but I just don't see it when it comes to "game speed."
