I disagree. Going up for a ball is all about wanting it. It's desire pure and simple. It's your football and no one else is getting it besides you. It's the mindset more than anything else. I never sad I was mad at Wallace, I just pointed out something he needs to work on.

I think the big difference is that NorthernFin isn't saying Wallace has to out jump and be more physical than the DB, but that he at least has to battle for it each time. When Grimes goes up against a Calvin Johnson he knows can't get to balls Johnson can, but Grimes will still scrap and stay in the fight.

That statement makes no sense. Especially the "everything you would want". IMO, he is a top 10 wide receiver. He has excellent hands and will do everything possible to catch the ball. This is something he needs to teach Wallace. Imagine if Mike Wallace would go up and fight for the ball ??? WOW .....

Care to give an explanation? or you're just in the business of making empty statements?

I think going up and fighting for the ball is probably tied closer to personality. Playing with aggressiveness. Some players just don't have it. That's what separates the Brandon London's of the world from Brandon Marshall. Looking at them you can't tell the difference, same body, speed and athletic ability (London probably being a bit more athletic), but Marshall has that fire and aggression, London doesn't.

There's no doubt he works at his craft of being a solid WR and being the best he can be. But a lot of guys in the NFL do this, in fact most if they want to stay in the league. Unfortunately, Hartline is not diplomatic and comes across as an arrogant jerk most of the time. I'm not impressed.

Listen to the interviews of almost every draft pick this year. These sound like just solid guys, leaders, and positive citizens. James, Turner, Tripp, Landry et al. It will take some time but if given the chance I think Hickey will turn the roster over a bit and weed out the riff raff. Whether this equates to wins, who knows....but the fact is we should have better leaders of men in the face of adversity.

You are right about most of the rookies being high character guys. However, we agree to disagree re Brian Hartline. Where you see him as an arrogant jerk, I see him as a smart, well spoken and honest. I've commented before that I expect him to have great success in business and/or the media when he retires as a player. Where Tannehill is a pretty boring speaker, I see Hartline as very interesting.

My explanation is that, you point out all the positives about Hartline, and then add "everything you want" but you state he is not great. To me, that doesn't make sense. Yes, Hartline does not have Wallace type speed. But other than that, the guy does have everything else. To me, again it's my opinion, he is a great wide receiver.

To me, "great" signifies someone that dominates the game; unstoppable; Brian Hartline isn't that, but only a few players are. As someone mentoned above, he squeezes the most out of his ability, and sometimes that's the most you can ask for.

To me, someone who dominates the game at their position is elite. Ricky Williams, Larry Csonka were elite. I put Hartline one step beneath elite, which to me would be great. If Hartline had better speed, he would be elite. But that's the only thing holding him back.
