I could have sworn we were trying to get younger on defense.
 
I don't recall saying he was a long-term solution.

But last I checked, we don't have a starting OLB with Crowder and Thomas. Spragan is a FA and pushing 30 anyways, plus Simmons is a much better LB. There's no guarantee we'll be able to draft one early with all the needs we have anyway.
 
He is too old. If he is the best alternative at OLB, give the job to Derek Pope.
 
wat are you nuts ? we dont need no old fart bags on the defense. go get a younger linebacker ... plus i would like to see what robert mccune can do for us. hes huge and i think he could beat out spragan
 
No need to jump on the first LB cut, there will be lots more to choose.Let's wait and see who else gets cut. Plus, we have no idea what Cam and Randy are thinking, they may want to draft a LB.
 
Yeah, you're right, all those over 30 guys on our defense (Carter, Holliday, Thomas, Taylor) aren't very good. Let's get younger.

You may want to see Robert McCune on the field, but I don't.

Pope has had three seasons to crack the lineup and couldn't do it. Couldn't even beat out Spragan.
I like Pope, but he's much like a Tommy Hendricks. Great special teams player, nothing special as a LB.

Brian Simmons had to deal with a nagging neck injury all of last season. I just don't want an older player who had to deal with a nagging injury when we could just draft someone younger who is relatively healthy.

He came back from that injury and played well down the stretch. Had his best game (tackle-wise) in the final game of the season against the Steelers.

I'm not saying write him a check tomorrow, I just think when you look around at FA LB's, he has to be considered. We don't have a lot of depth at the position and as I said earlier, there are no guarantees we'll be able to land a LB in the first three rounds if we address QB, OL, DB and WR, which are all needs as well.
 
Hey geniuses all because a player is older doesn't mean they're useless.

Players are playing longer so their prime extends to aroudn 32 years of age now.

Even after their prime, players are very effective and since he was cut Simmons might come at the right price. He's actually a very good fit at SLB.

Just like Carter-Roth we can sign Simmons and draft a backup.

Getting younger is nice too but if you think about it there's a great shot that after four years your young kid you drafted is gone for nothing. Simmons is a respectable veteran and would be a tremendous help instead of Spragan.

I mean it's like some of you guys would say oh no thanks don't give Marvin Harrison, give me Colbert from the Panthers HE"S YOUNG HE MUST HAVE POTENTIAL!!!!

Look you all heard it hear first. The dolphins will be a major team if team try to trade up to get a top 10 pick that might happen to fall to us. The result is big bonus draft picks we need. i also our fans will be happy about the contract re-structures you will see to free up money that will help us even more. The bigger end result will be big numbers on the table to players we want others want and need badly, or as we say the most wanted free agents available. Big changes our comming its even better were being quiet about then come out with smoking guns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When Pope has had his chance to start or play when there's been injuries in the LBacking corps to ZT or Crowder, Derrick comes in and there's not too much difference in the defense and how well the LBs play. Pope is a STs beast but if he was a Strong Side Linebacker he would be starting for us but he is a Weak Side 'Backer and can also fill in and be a Middle 'Backer. He's a valuable guy to have on our team. Derrick Pope is simply a solid football player.
