While being solid in the slot i dont think there is a big drop off with bobby mccain

McCain is a solid slot CB. What he is not is a boundary corner and if he were to be used as so he needs help over the top. So what did Coyle do? Sticks him on the boundary in Cover 1 with no safety help over the top. Now is that the players fault or a bonehead decision by the staff? If a player is not used to his strengths and is strung out by incompetent coaches who fail to help with his weaknesses, then it's a coaching issue, not necessarily the fault of the misused player

That is 110% on point. McCain cannot play the boundary at all, and that's what he was asked to do from the start. I knew it was a disaster when they signed him to be the #2. He's 5'9.... 95% of 5'9 CB's are meant to be nickel corners. Unless you are Brent Grimes, and even Buster Skrine played decent at the boundary last year. Albeit this, he is a very solid nickel. TEN gets a bargain deal for 2 years, $4.4M (600k in incentives), most likely around $1.5M in guarantees, as long as they use him properly, as a NCB/Slot CB.
