Lance Briggs and Cato June. These are the big free agent linebackers playing for the Bears and the Colts. And since the Pats have a glaring need at the position, those who are inclined to dream can watch and wonder what they would look like in a Patriots uniform.

They have the cap space to go after them. I can't see June fitting into their system at all though.

Bingo^

Unless they decide to suprise everyone......

Pats will never dish the cash and I can't see either one of these guys signing with them!

The growing belief in Chicago is that the Bears will slap the $7 million tag on LB Lance Briggs and take him off the market. And even if Briggs isn’t tagged and the Pats came in with a competitive offer, there’s the issue of Bill Belichick’s defensive system to deal with. Briggs, who was named to his second straight Pro Bowl this year, flourishes in the Bears’ “Tampa 2” defense, which calls for speedy linebackers to flow to the ball. It’s far more glamorous than the Pats’ gap-control, 3-4 scheme. In fact, Briggs said he played in (the 3-4) “a little bit in college (Arizona)” but that he didn’t like it. Asked if he was interested in playing in the 3-4 scheme again, he was even more blunt. “Not really,” he said.

The Colts could be facing major financial problems in the near future. Most of their star players have back-loaded contracts and their cap values in most cases will escalate significantly in '07. Although the cap will increase to about $109 million in 2007, the Colts are projected to be just $2.6 million beneath the cap. Among the players headed for unrestricted free agency are linebacker Cato June, cornerback Nick Harper and defensive end Dwight Freeney, whose contract for 2007-'08 will void after the Super Bowl.
