NOT!

They signed Wade Miller to a 1 year contract. So, come July when Prior, Wood, and Miller are all on the DL at the same time they can call up their AA pitchers to see if they have anything in the farm system!:shakeno:

I don't see much wrong with it, the Cubs have money to burn and your right they need 8 starters to start the year so they aren't dipping into triple-A by the break..

Miller was so good in Houston, but he's trying to refine his mechanics on the fly. That just doesn't work in the Majors, and his injury problems don't seem to help things.

Wade has some outstanding stuff, but during his short stay in Boston, he seemed to have trouble finding the strike zone for extended periods of time. He was a lock to throw about 90 pitches before reaching the 3rd inning. I don't think you can put him in any rotation because he puts too much of a burden on the pen, hopefully for the sake of the Cubs he's delegated to a relief role.

The actual contract isn't bad, 1 year for 1 million dollars however Miller probably won't be play to pitch until May the earliest. I don't think it's a dumb move by the Cubs because if healthy Miller is a pretty good pitcher (as shown in Houston) however he's health is always a ? mark.

This in my opinion is a no risk move for the Cubs. They already have their rotation set (Zambrino, Maddux, Prior, Jeronme Williams, Rusch) without having to worry about Wood or Miller yet. If Wood and Miller can get and stay healthy (along with Prior) the Cubbies could actually have a strong rotation. I like the Cubs rotation (if healthy) better than any other team in the NL Central (unless of course Clemens comes back to pitch for Houston).

The Cubs have a lot in the farm system anyway, it's a matter of not rushing them. Wood-Prior-Zambrano-Maddux-Rich Hill/Jerome Williams/Wade Miller/Glendon Rusch plus we have plenty of starters with AA phenoms Angel Guzman & Bobby Brownlie. We have no problem developing pitchers, it's hitters we have the problem with.

Maddux is over-the-hill and the rest are damaged goods. Poor Cubbies.

thats a pretty good move for them if he sucks who cares they ain't paying him anything and he could have a comeback year

It's just like the Ryan Dempster & Scott Williamson signings. Dempster worked out, Williamson is in the final year of the two year deal he signed. A million is nothing. Sure beats paying $6-8M for Jeff Weaver.
