They ended up with the same record, though yes the Jets did technically finish ahead due to a tiebreaker. Though looking back at that season, yes the Jets were a worse team, the tiebreaker though might not agree. But there is a reason why the Dolphins ended their season with the heads hanging the and the Jets were celebrating like they just won the Super Bowl. Dolphins underachieved, Jets overachieved.
The Dolphins were favored in that game, and if it wasn't for the Jets upsetting the Dolphins, there would have been a two game gap. At this point though a tiebreaker doesn't erase that Miami ultimately fielded a better team than the Jets.
