Even the league's best D and a loaded offense cannot help the Broncos win when their OL stinks. Doesn't matter the opponent or who's at QB when the line gives up sacks or has to hold to prevent them.

So to those who said we should try and trade for one of the Broncos young QBs, perhaps you can now see the results would be the same as we are getting from our no longer young QB who's being asked to do the same... Except without a top flight running game or D and with somehow even worse protection from his line.

But the defense couldn't overcome the Broncos' failure to hit 90 yards on the ground. It couldn't overcome a moribund 30-of-50 performance from Siemian. It couldn't overcome a pair of lost fumbles.

And it most certainly couldn't overcome another horrific performance from the offensive line. Yes, Siemian was only sacked twice, but the Denver front was flagged for holding five times. One wiped out an Anderson touchdown. Another resulted in a safety that put San Diego up three scores.

You want the root of the problem? It's that line. Denver entered the week 29th in the NFL in sacks allowed. Per Football Outsiders, only the dumpster fire that is the Miami Dolphins has been worse in pass protection.

The absence of right tackle Donald Stephenson was blamed as a big cause of the six sacks Lynch took in Week 5. Stephenson was back against San Diego, and all the team did was swap out those sacks for holds that "prevented" them.

Either way, the result was the same: The offense marched backward.

A Broncos team built around running the football hasn't been able to do that for a month. In turn, that's putting tremendous pressure on a young quarterback to carry the offense behind a line that's giving him precious little time to get rid of the ball.

To no one's shock and amazement, that isn't working.

If you're 29th and there are 32 teams...how is only the Dolphins worse?

I think last night had more to do with not having Gary Kubiak on the sidelines than their offensive line.

simiens ehh is part of the problem too although he did a solid job not to throw any picks once that game got out of hand

Read it again, those two stats were separate. It said they are 29th in sacks allowed, and that we are also worse in pass protection. I didn't see any claim about overall defensive ranking.

But it is far more interesting that you who chastise so many for "making excuses", do so yourself very quickly for another team. So what you're saying is coaching has a much larger impact on the game than maybe who the QB is? That Simien not elevating the play of those around him was more about the coach? Nice!

Saw this also this morning which was a little surprising. He had a great play last night that was wiped out for Holding.

#Broncos RB C.J. Anderson's now had his fourth straight game under 50 yards rushing. He signed a 4-year, $18M deal in off-season. $10M grt.

i thought siemian was garbage last night and it had more to do with who he actually is as a QB than how the line blocked.

Is this a blanket statement? If it's not you need to get a clue.

When Bosa had a free eun at the QB and Sinien did a spin move and escaped untouched... that was impresive.

The one thing that stood out to me last night was that Rivers was quickly getting rid of the ball or throwing it away instead of taking needless sacks.

OR...... Maybe their struggles have something to do with not having Peyton Manning at QB ??? :ponder: Did they lose a bunch of lineman from last year? Now all of a sudden the line is horrible?

This is what a lot of you don't get. There's a LOT more that goes into being a good QB. It's not just how you can throw. It's identifying defenses, blitzes, coverages and being able to get the offense in the right plays and protections. This skill is probably more important than how good you can throw because this helps avoid negative plays which puts you behind the sticks and makes it difficult to pick up first downs. Understand the game and don't just rely on media folks to form your opinion.

They moved on from a few. Evan Mathis was starting at guard for them and they let him walk I know that much. There may have been one or two others.

I just looked it up and they only have one starter that wan't on the starting unit last year and his name is Donald Stevenson. He was wiht KC last year. Started 7 games.

I'm pretty sure Stevenson plays RT for them, right? Not sure where you looked that up but Mathis was playing for them last year unless he got injured at some point during the season.
