the more i see and hear about linehan's offense the more i think it does not rely on a single feature back to carry the ball 25 times a game. therefore, does any running back on our team hold the value of a huge contract like that?

true, but Ronnies value is his versatility. You can line him up at RB, WR, and FB. Imagine having ronnie and ricky on the field at the same time.

I agree he has value just not that much.

If the poll said give him the 18 or 19 million dollar SB i may have picked this.

i agree but at what price? with a contract like ronnie's we will be looking at serious cap hits down the road and if he doesn't pan out will have to eat his remaining guaranteed money. there is no doubt drafting this high is a serious risk and i think that's why saban tried so hard to get out of it. in the end he couldnt make a trade without getting raped and did what he had to do.

I say we need to quit being cheap.....and pay the man

I don't care who the rookie is, no one is worth that kind of money. He hasn't even stepped on a field as a professional and he expects big bucks. I can name lots more promising prospects that were busts than I can ones that lived up to the hype.

I agree with you, but he needs to prove how good he can play in TC.....in reference to the money that him and France are asking, I believe is totally crazy, way to much!. Is very difficult to assess his value, since even at the college level he never really carried the load, I'am not suggesting that Brown is not a good player, but we have not seen nothing out of him yet.

Top picks are getting waaaaayyyyy too much money these days.

Agree with every bit of this. That's at least 50% of why I was hoping we could trade down as well. But, if it wasn't there, it wasn't there.

Ronnies agent wouldn't want ronnie to go to TC and risk injury. So the only way he will be back is if his contract is a done deal.

First of all, a high price was expected when you draft the number two.
Secondly you all need to chill. One minute your talking about how great Ronnie is and the next he's a chump and needs to prove what he's worth. Besides this wouldn't be such a big deal if we didn't start camp before most teams. I mean most started thursday or friday or later. If we started at the same time he would miss maybe a couple practices no big deal. And remember, we have a 5th preseason game now too, I think that's plenty of time for Ronnie, especially since RB isn't the hardest position to learn. Now if it was a Qb I'd be worried.

how about this... Trade brown for a first rounder next year. Give half of his would be bonus to Ty Law... We get by on Harris/Gordon/Minor first four games, then Ricky comes back... Then we established value for Ricky over the rest of the season, then at seasons end we trade him(will never forgive him for what he did) for consistent QB (Billy Volek TENN). Going into next years draft we will need a RB(D. Williams-Memphis, Bush-USC, Peterson-OK).... But we will have an est QB and Ty Law on top of what we already have... It sounds a little quirky but makes excellent sense!
