brown holdout - poll

what should we do about ronnie?

  • we need him. give him the $22 mil guaranteed and get him in camp.

    Votes: 147 47.1%
  • let him hold out. his value to us is not the same as the contract he demands.

    Votes: 165 52.9%

  • Total voters
    312
When Will they come up with "conditional" contracts? Say "ok, Ronnie will give you $___ amount for ___ touchdowns within a given time period"... You don't perform, you make less money. How can we give $22m to someone who hasn't played a down in the NFL?

they do but its not guaranteed because they can cut you and resign you for less.

Gotcha,... But how do you cut your #2 pick? I Guess Ronnie pretty much them by the short hairs.

there is no other term for a rookie that does not report to camp without a contract because "holdout" is the proper term and that is why it is used. if you are unfamiliar with the definition of "holdout" you can find it in the dictionary.

It's used, but it's wrong. You can't holdout when you don't have a contract.

if he doesn't perform in the future then they cut him

Ya, that goes without saying. But it would be way down the road, after he is already a rich boy... It would just be cool if they could pay everyone a base salary. Then "Starters" would make more on top of that, and then different elements within a game would pay more on that, ie: tackles, sacks, first downs, catches, touchdowns etc. etc... There would be a "game by game" incentive to do well. Oh well, perhaps in a perfect world far far away ;)

their is less money involved with cadillacs contract

Couldn't find anything about what he signed for....might be a good guide line...Gruden did say he wouldn't be coddled but thrown right into the game

Apparently Ronnie's agent isn't doing him any favors holding out. He's still a rookie and needs to be in TC, he's not earning any brownie points holding out. thats for sure.........

thats why he wants to get paid now so he can become a rich boy. NFL players get most of their money late in their contracts so if they get cut then they've barely made anything.

how about this... Trade brown for a first rounder next year. Give half of his would be bonus to Ty Law... We get by on Harris/Gordon/Minor first four games, then Ricky comes back... Then we established value for Ricky over the rest of the season, then at seasons end we trade him(will never forgive him for what he did) for consistent QB (Billy Volek TENN). Going into next years draft we will need a RB(D. Williams-Memphis, Bush-USC, Peterson-OK).... But we will have an est QB and Ty Law on top of what we already have... It sounds a little quirky but makes excellent sense!
Hate to burst your bubble, but it will never happen.

If the poll said give him the 18 or 19 million dollar SB i may have picked this.

bingo! you win the prize!

  • We have the longest TC in the NFL.
  • RB's don't take long to assimilate into an offense. It make take a while for RB to be really functional in the passing game but he'll get there just the same. It certainly doesn't look like it has hurt RW.
  • Last year the first RB off the board was at number 24.
  • RB's have short shelf-life... the reason most are not selected at the top of round one... this year was the exception.
  • The guy is going to get his gauranteed money... the hang up is how much and when because the CBA is not in place.
  • Many teams have suffered busts of high paid QB's and bounced back in the cap.
  • You would do the same thing.

im done arguing with you guys on this. like i said, check the definition(s) of the term. it is used by the media because it is both accurate and proper.
