Buddy Ryan: "Well, we were 16-point underdogs in '68. What are the Jets, seven-point underdogs? So we got a good chance."

SP: "How will you know it's going well in the first half?"

BR: "Nobody scores."

SP: "What's your prediction for the game?"

BR: "Twelve-nuthin'."

That's why the Jets are so fascinating, a high profile coach and QB, just like the old days. Almost every top team had that combo in the '70s. Opinions galore, in either direction. It's become a bland faceless league. Can you imagine the difference in media focus on Rex Ryan or Jim Caldwell leading to the Super Bowl, depending on which team wins today?

Too bad Buddy Ryan didn't get a head coaching job sooner and been a fixture for 20+ years. There would be many more Gilbride-type stories.
