Florida Marlins pitcher A.J. Burnett apologized Tuesday for the comments that led to his banishment, and with free agency looming, his agent conceded the episode could be costly.

Manager Jack McKeon told Burnett 30 minutes before Monday's game to leave. The right-hander will continue to be paid but won't be with the Marlins the final week of the season.

The move came after Burnett lost his sixth decision in a row Sunday, then said the Marlins play scared because McKeon and his staff are too negative.

He publicly critisized the management amongst other things. I caught a piece of it on pti I don't really know the whole story.

But good riddence AJ, you were f'ing horrible down the stretch anyway. Your as much to blame as anyone for the Marlins choke job. :shakeno:

Some of his quotes:

"I've got one more start here, and that's all that matters," Burnett said of his apparent plans for free agency.

"It's depressing around here," he said. "There's nothing positive around here. There's nothing positive on the staff now.

"You give up one home run, and it's a funeral. ... A positive pat on the back is better than anything. I haven't seen a pat on the back since April."

another genius move by the Marlins. NOT trading him when he had huge value. Now he walks and the Marlins get nothing in return.

Yet, when they suck next year they will cry "small market we can't compete" when they had a huge trade chip they didn't get rid of.

We weren't going to get anything worth value in return. We would have been worse had we traded him.

its easy to say that now how bout of the genius move by the yankees Jaret Wright & Carl Pavano need i say more and unlike the marlins they don't have to be smart they just buy everybody and hope a few of them work out

You didn't make the playoffs and told him to stay home the final week of the season. How could you have been worse??????:shakeno:   :shakeno:

At the time the Marlins were still in the playoff picture and they figured Burnett would help them make the playoffs more then anyone else they would have gotten in return. I mean it's hard to sell that Hayden Penn and Larry Biggie for Burnett to your fans is going to put them over the hump. It's not like the Marlins were in Tampa Bay's position and didn't trade Huff and Baez for a few upper prospects. They were still in the race. Sure now it's easy to say they should have traded him because he was god awful in August and September and they didn't make the playoffs now. But back in June/July it probably wouldn't have been a good move considering their position.

You don't do that. It makes any person that does look selfish and spoilt.

There is a public leader of a team and that is always the manager or the head coach.

I totally agree with this above statement
