For cornerback Byron Maxwell, defending the best receiver in football was just what his ailing season needed.

You could be forgiven for thinking that Maxwell, he of poor alignments and missed tackles and the victim of one running back hurdle, wouldn’t perform all that well against Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown, the game’s most skilled route runner before and after the catch.
But Maxwell allowed just three completions against five targets for 23 total yards when guarding Brown, and on two straight plays in the final quarter recorded pass breakups. He recorded four in total on the day, including a vital third down play.

Maybe that's what happens when you play a PRESS/MAN corner as a PRESS/MAN corner. We need to stop putting this guy in a frikin zone.

Wow! He played a an alright game! We're looking for consistency and you need to understand his overall skills is terrible. Good game but let's see what he can do for the rest of the season.

Call him or it what you want, but he stepped up big time.

One of the NFL's best WRs is nothing but a footnote to this game.

I'm sure A Brown is fuming over Maxwell this week.

His coverage was good. Still afraid of tackling

we dont have the CB's for zone, i hate that we run it so much Howard is physical and max not as physical but much better as a press corner than picking up a zone, stop playing them off the receiver let them get in the receivers face

I think his skills are fine, I think his effort is what's terrible.

Playing press with our corners would be great if we could stop the outside run without them... but we cant

Kudo's to Max. A lot of us were way down on his effort lately. Just shows that when properly motivated (?) he can compete.

better last than never with him. We'll see what happens the rest of the way.

Ozzy rules!!

Sounds like Todd Haley had a pretty bad game.

That and Roeth was pretty impaired by that knee and Tomlin let him play about 10 minutes longer than he should have, too. That was a very bad game by the Steelers, no matter how much credit you want to give Miami.

Play like that for the rest of the year and maybe he'll have a job next year.

I believe that the biggest factor was three cut Dolphin players in one week.

Trash was gettin' taken out. And it got Maxwell's attention big time. It woke him up. His pride wouldn't let him be the next piece of trash taken out.

Sad, because his coverage has contributed big time to the losses so far. Good that he can help notch one in the win column. Maybe he's awakened. What we saw Sunday was the player I thought Miami would be getting from jump street. He played Sunday like he played the last half of the season for Eagles. Maybe he simply has to play himself in game shape? As in: coast during offseason w. big buck contract... and then gradually play way in game shape? Hmmm.
