C. Longs Pro-Day Story and Video

who was that talking to him in the phins gear? I think i saw him mouth something like 'congrats, youll be a miami dolphin' ....or you know...something along those lines

Long's draft stock has never been higher. He's listed as the top pick almost any place you look. He also drew pretty high praise Tuesday from some pretty big names. "Can't go wrong with a player like this," said St Louis Rams Head Coach Scott Linehan. "He's got an unbelievable amount of football ability and his character on top of that is unbelievable. So when you get that kind of package, you're looking at a guy that is going to impact a team right away."

That is why he needs to be our pick if we don't trade down.

Actually...I thought he was saying....shame you still can't lift...it would have helped you.

well,if Jake Long isn't our 1st pick,i sure wouldn't mind having Chris as our 1st pick

Well Pete, obviously we should base our picks on Mock drafts.

What did we need Parcells for? We could have saved a lot of money.

Well...it was stated that C. Long was the top pick at most draft sites...I've proven that wrong. Perhaps it was meant at the VIP room?

Sorry...but I just can't peek into the VIP room and see the top pick.

His outfit during his workout was pretty funny. He had a beanie on his head because it was cold, loose sport shorts, gloves, but no shirt. Showing off the stomach and chest no doubt. He's impressively chiseled though, so it works for him.

He still couldn't lift for the scouts, though. Also, given the fact that the Combine vertical has shown to be off by 4 inches pretty much across the board, he probably should have done another vertical. That's one thing that isn't getting enough airplay, the vertical jump issue. I've been in contact with Rob Rang and Chad Reuter about it, I shared my research with them and Reuter also has a background in Econ so he's been able to take his sources and reproduce it, and they'll be rolling out with something soon. They think it will either be just about the vertical, or it will be about Combine screwups of the past (Vince Young's wonderlic) in light of the latest one. They'll probably go light on the numbers and the research though, so as to make it easy for the public to digest.

CK based upon what you know now...who is the pick @ 1?

Perhaps you should also ask them about that "sprained thumb" issue...after 4 months...he still can't lift? :shakeno:

CK based upon what you know now...who is the pick @ 1?

Chris Long or Jake Long. They'll continue looking at trade opportunities, of course...but if forced to use the pick, it will be one of those two, with a higher probability of it being Chris Long. One issue that could decide which Long they take, will be an evaluation of which players they could realistically get at #32, #57 and #64.

Among the OTs, I don't think you can count on Chris Williams, Ryan Clady, Branden Albert or Jeff Otah being available at #32. You have to focus on Anthony Collins and Gosder Cherilus, most likely...and figure out if either of those two are your guy. Gosder's problem is he seemed to perform a lot better at RT than LT in college, so he's probably a RT in the pros. He's got a good body for the NFL, but he got abused by some rushers and his overall blocking grades weren't great. BC offensive linemen have a lot of pull with scouts, though...lot of history of good performance in the NFL there. Anthony Collins seems like the more premium player, definitely more likely to play LT...but he had a 5.5 in the 40 at the Combine and he didn't have the ankle excuse that Otah had. He also didn't perform as well against tougher competition in college, much like Clady.

If not, then you move onto Sam Baker, Duane Brown and Carl Nicks at #57 and #64, figuring out the likelihood of them falling that far, figuring out if any one of them are your guy. Sam Baker is a love him or hate him kind of guy. At 6'4.5" with 33 inch arms, many question whether he can play LT in the pros. The problem with that is, LT is his best position. He's a great pass protector and mediocre (at best) run blocker. You can maybe deal with that kind of player playing LG but certainly not RT. Duane Brown has the same issues, as far as size is concerned, and hasn't been as good a player as Baker. Carl Nicks is a fantastic run blocker and only allowed like 1 sack at Nebraska, but SERIOUS character red flags are draped all over him. Scouts question everything, from his work ethic, to his maturity, to his ability to stay out of jail. When a guy isn't even allowed to use his school's facilities to work out for pre-draft prep...you know he was a grade one a-hole. But, he does have a lot of talent and a great set of tools.

The flip side to that is the DE/OLB guys likely to be available at #32, #57 and #64. You can wipe Vernon Gholston and Phil Merling right off your board for those picks. They've risen too high. Derrick Harvey MIGHT make it to #32, and so the real question you have is, when I look at this kid play...is he an OLB in the 3-4? Personally, I would answer no. So then you look at Quentin Groves...and yes, I absolutely believe he's a 3-4 OLB. But, will he make it to pick #32? I don't know that. If I did, it might make the #1 pick decision easier. Groves catches criticism for his 2007 but he had three dislocated toes during the year, and it naturally robbed him of the burst he had in 2006. But, he's a heck of an athlete. At 6'3" and 260 pounds he ran a 4.53 and had 30 bench lifts. His vertical translates to about a 33.5 inch vertical. He got 23 QB pressures in 2007 so it isn't like he couldn't get to the passer. I saw the man get 10 QB hurries against Matt Grothe and USF earlier this year while he was still mostly healthy. Through 4 healthy games he had 18 tackles, 6 TFLs, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and an amazing 18 QB pressures. I still like the kid a lot, but will he be there at #32? I don't think so.

At the next level down, you're looking at Cliff Avril, Shawn Crable and Bruce Davis...maybe Lawrence Jackson and maybe Chris Ellis. Now, I'm a big fan of Ellis, but his effort is not always there. He can absolutely play 3-4 OLB, and he can take over entire games, but other times he just looks average. I like Avril and Crable. But, keep in mind if we're looking at guys at this level, we could also still have taken Collins or Cherilus at #32. It wouldn't hurt to load this defense up with pass rushers and I don't think it would be unusual to see Chris Long at #1, then an OT at #32, and then a guy like Cliff Avril or Chris Ellis further down at #57 or #64.

I'd also add Rivers, Henderson and Howard to your list CK.

I'd also add Rivers, Henderson and Howard to your list CK.

Rivers doesn't have a shot in hell of getting to #32, Henderson is much more likely to be looked at as an ILB in the 3-4, and Howard (at 6'1" and 237 pounds) is probably too small for Parcells and Ireland to feel comfortable as a 3-4 OLB.

Virginia Tech LB Xavier Adibi told Sirius NFL Radio that he felt the most comfortable with the Denver Broncos interview at the Combine and met with coach Mike Shanahan...Adibi also mentioned that he met with the entire Detroit Lions staff at the Senior Bowl, and mentioned Miami, Atlanta and the Rams as other interested teams.

Howard isn't that much lighter than some of the Cowboys linebackers...and he's alot faster. He should be able to add some weight at 6'1"
