It is no coincidence to see an edited statement by C-Pep on the eve on this draft. This is a strategic effort to fend off rumors about his health and playing ability in 2007 season.

C-pep knows that his days are numbered in Miami and because he is his own agent (to an extent) he is launching the media campaign now in the hopes of drawing broader interest thus increasing his options and value.

It is a shame how his health has been managed. You can't blame the player in my opinion, players want to play, doctors are the ones entrusted with the go/no-go decision on readiness.

If you read his statement we see that he is disassociating his triple lig injury from the patella problem. Of the two, the Chondromalasia is a chronic knee syndrome that is never healed. It is very painful and causes neurological shut down of the VMO which causes slow but sure atrophy and increased chance of injury as the quads weaken. It will be the main factor in his chronic knee, not the ligaments.

The tradjecy is that this chronic problem is often a result of poor rehab and resuming activity prematurely. The patella tendon weakens as a result of the triple lig sx and causes the patella to track further laterally outside the femoral groove, and scrape against the sharp edges of the head of the femur. The tissue underneath the patella becomes inflamed, painful, swelling, and patient begins to protect by limiting range of motion, thus the devasting cycle of atrophy, more patella tracking problems, etc.

The only remedy is periodic shaving via scope to remove scar tissue or limiting activity that stresses the flexion of the knee. Either way, it is a chronic knee, and he has his doctors to blame (IN MY OPINION).

He can play, and be effective, but the longevity of his playing career has been shortened and will have to endure pain, swelling, constant rehab, and periodic scopes.

I hope this is a lesson to all the younger athletes on this board. I speak from extensive personal experience and training.

Please never shoot a joint with steroids in the hopes of resume play, look extensively to surgical options, rehab is the most important stage post sx and should never be rushed nor allow the athlete to determine readiness.

Good-bye Dante, I'll miss your deep rainbow passes.

Well it looks like Daunte's time is up and I and I feel sorry for the guy. Not because he won't land on another team but because when he was traded to Miami he thought he was coming home for good, only to be criticized and tossed aside like yesterdays news paper. He was never given a fair chance to prove himself to the Dolphins players or fans.

Very good write up, I agree and hope that Cpep will be able to come back someway or another. Its a shame to see all that talent go down the drain!! If he cant make it here I hope he finds a team that will take him. Good luck to you Cpep!

In the statement from Daunte there is nothing about a chronic problem. He even says that he felt good until the Buffalo game where he re-injured his knee. Maybe hes injury prone, but I dont see how you can figure that he has this chronic disease.

I decided to google chrondromalacia, and it doesnt sound very bad. It said that most patients usually can be healed with physical therapy, but some cases need surgery. But the surgery only takes 6 weeks to recover from and start playing sports. This makes me think that is some thing other than chrondromalcia, with Daunte saying his recovery would be 4-6 months.

I don't feel sorry for Culpepper...I feel sorry for the Dolphins and us fans....it was Culpepper's decision to play...he knew he wasn't ready...and read this;

Dolphins | Culpepper waits for decision

Greg Bedard, of the Palm Beach Post, reports Miami Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper said he will wait for the team's decision on his future, in an e-mail to several media outlets. He had been confident about his status with the team until recently. "Until this week, it never entered my mind that I wouldn't be the starting quarterback of the Miami Dolphins this coming season."

Is he brain dead....the Dolphins have been talking about Green for a month at least...but it just hit him...yikes.

When all else fails, find a scapegoat (the Doctors). He was cleared to practice becasue the ligaments were sound. Chondromalacia can occur without ligament damage and can result from any athletic endeavor as can patellar tendinitis (which also frequently occurs after ligament surgery when players resume training).

I concur.

You do not know what they have been telling him to his face, and what's going on behind his back. Try to use some common sense.

I completely agree. I am still in shock since the first time I heard the absurd rumors of "corny" and "player hatin" Cameron coming in and even "wanting" Adam and Eve's first born son, Trent Green over Culpepper? That is completely off the wall!

The guy is 137 years old! What is up with Cameron hating on a just 2 years removed from runner up to NFL MVP CPepp? I just don't like that.

I have been in favor of Cameron's hiring. But that is the one issue I have with him.

It just seems that Cam just has a hard on for Quinn's looks. Because Quinn ain't nothing special.

Then again, why not draft Quinn and "still" keep Culpepper as the starter instead of Trent Green?

Is it that Cameron sees Culpepper as having a good 4-5 more good years left but wants a youngster? And feels that since Green has only 1 more good year left...that he would rather give Culpepper to another team in order to draft his future QB?

Hmm. Maybe that is the only way I can rationalize what Cameron is thinking.

But I just don't get it. Culpepper is ten times better than Green. And has more gas in his tank than Green does. But anyways.

Im sure Cameron isn't stupid enough to just cut Culpepper until after the draft. So...
