The Bucs are running Caddy into the ground. Caddy's averaging over 29 carries a game. Gruden says that he keeps running him because he knows the chances of a big run are better if he keeps on running him. And he has no plans to stop as long as Caddy shows he's not breaking down.
Gruden is being reckless here. You can't play wait and see. You've got to protect the kid. What happens when Caddy DOES show signs of wearing down?? He's going to hit that rookie wall, it's a given. Hell, he's already got a foot and shoulder injuries. And it's not like he doesn't have Alstott and Pittman to carry the ball.
Caddy is on pace for 469 carries. Jamal Anderson has the record with 410. And he blew out his knee the very next year.
Remember us talking about Wanny running Ricky ragged?? That was 383 and 392 carries, which is a 2-season record. And Caddy is much smaller than both of those guys.
Caddy, though 217 pounds, is on the small side. His legs are relatively skinny.
