This team was getting old. I think dumping salries like this is not as bad as some people may think.

I will miss Welker. He was very good, but the Pats may be overvaluing him. It looks like we are going to have a lot of draft picks. Now, I don't know how Cam will draft, but I know one thing : Saban was not good at it. He painted us into a corner with old players and we are getting out. We are going to upgrade this team with solid draft picks. It sure worked for the Saints rather fast. If we can add some nice FAs like Porter, we will have a nice balance of youth and veteran leadership, and I think this team could be a playoff team this year if it all gells.

Let's face it, the Fins needed to make changes. They are doing the right thing by freeing up money and collecting draft picks. Smart move!

Well apparently nothing is concrete yet between Wes and NE. However, if they do sign him, I agree with you. I love Wes's heart and think he is a hell of a player but I'm shocked they are talking about giving up a 2nd for him. Another interesting trade possibility is dealing McMike. I would love to get rid of him because if anybody on this team plays old it's him. Traylor played with more fuel in the tank last year than Randy IMO.

Welker is NOT repeat NOT a patriot YET, heck he has not even officially gotten an OFFER from them yet!! (Numbers were discussed today..) Better chance a trade happens for him than a 2nd round pick..and the "offer" reported was obviously bogus from the Boston globe today...

The Patriots have yet to present an offer sheet to Welker, a fourth-year player who is coming off a career-high 67-catch season, but discussions figure to heat up today.

Actually, he has been signed to an offer sheet:

<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/4">Dan Pires, of The Standard-Times, reports the offer sheet the New England Patriots signed restricted free agent WR Wes Welker (Dolphins) is a seven-year, $38 million offer, according to sources close to the situation. The Patriots would have to give up a second-round draft pick to the Miami Dolphins should the Dolphins decline to match the offer.

Again that is from SATURDAY!! (READ THE SOURCE..) The Globe this AM reported Welker was coming to Boston and terms ould be discussed.... and seeing as how the Pats and Phins been talking trade.. hmmm think Maybe a trade in the works pending a long term agreement between Welker and NE?? MUCH more likely than a 2nd round pick and that rediculous offer they say the Pats made him...

i think we are doing the right thing..mueller and cameron are getting rid of players who are either too old or aren't that good..everyone needs to stop panicking..

Shame we couldn't have done this two years ago :( We'd be ahead of the curve at this point.

I think it's a forgone conclusion that Welker will be wearing a Pats jersey next year. According to the Herald, the meetings have gone well, and his agent is set to meet with Pioli tonight. Plus they said that Saban has had an impact because he loves Welker.

I 100% agree. Anyone on a 6-10 team is not safe from scrutiny, unless you're the Defensive Player of the Year.

I agree. But when it comes to Wes, he is one of the players that gave his all last year. There is a reason Wes has drawn interest by Bellichick. He is a great player. We all know it

a lot of the moves we have been making have shocked me honestly but i hope its for the best, it looks like we are trying to start up a whole new team which for me is always hard because i always get attached to players especially my man wes and i hate seeing him go to a team like NE even if we are getting a 2nd round pick for him. Wes is a guy who i can see perfectly in a patriots uniform and excelling and really hurting us in the future and that is what im mainly worried about with loosing him however i feel 100% sure and confident in what cam and mueller are doing and i hope it works out because we deserve a winning team

Rebuilding is exciting and also nerve racking. The biggest thing is I dont wanna be stuck like the 49er have been for the past few years. They are a team that reminds me a lot of our team. Very good at one point, then made the playoffs every year, then started to miss the playoffs, then blew the whole thing up, never really to recover. I just dont wanna see the Dolphins do something like that. I know that San Fran doesn't have our defense because that is staying pretty well intact. I do agree though, you cant turn down a 2nd rounder for a special teams player like Wes. I was very good on big 3rd and 4th downs, but never would have been a true 1 or 2 reciever. McMike, doesn't bother me too much to get rid of him. If the right moves are made though I agree we could end up being pretty tough in a year or 2.

But SF is starting to turn the corner. They blew it up and have started to assemble some really good players. Now, when they are ascending they can go out and spend on a guy like Clements to take the next step. It's going to take a few years but the moves the Dolphins are making are the right ones, if they can effectively draft.

he's a good player. great? c'mon. if he was playing for most other teams rather than the dolphins, would he have led the team in receptions? doubtful. he always played his a** off for the fins, but if the pats want to overpay him, then there isn't much we can do about it. mueller would have to have been crazy to match the offer. as it stands, i believe we've traded him for the pats' second round (60th overall) and a seventh - that's an awesome deal.

The only two moves that I question are Welker and McIntosh.

I think a whole lot of people have seriously underestimated Welker. I was hoping that that might actually work in the Dolphins' favor, and perhaps they could have just extended Welker's contract for what very likely would have been a huge bargain. Only time will tell, obviously, but I don't think the Pats overpaid for Welker, at all.

My concern about McIntosh was similar: given the free agent market this year, I really think we should have extended McIntosh on the cheap before anyone else started sniffing. It really looks to me as if we're depending on getting our starting left tackle in the draft... which is a bit scary.

Ultimately, I am concerned that the Dolphins misread the market significantly on those two guys... but other than that, I very much support the collect draft picks and grow your own strategy.
