Calling Chase Claypool....Time to Step Up !

Chase Claypool could be ready for a breakout game with Jaylen Waddle out for Dolphins

Miami Dolphins fans are still waiting for Chase Claypool to break out and give them a reason to understand why the team traded for him. Maybe this week is that game.

Claypool joined the Dolphins way back in October. He was the only trade in or out of Miami at the deadline and his trade actually came days before the deadline. Since his arrival in Miami, he has played seven games.

Claypool has only three receptions on four targets for 23 yards and he is only averaging 7.7 yards per reception. When Tyreek Hill was out against the Jets, many believed that he would step into a bigger role. That didn't happen.

In that game, Claypool did catch two passes on two targets but fans want to know when he will become that go-to player that has the talent to take apart defenses.

This could be that week, theoretically. Jaylen Waddle has been ruled out with a high ankle sprain and is likely going to miss the Bills game in week 18. With Waddle out, the Dolphins should turn to Claypool who has incredible talent but has yet to truly showcase it.

In his four-year NFL career, his best season came in 2020, his rookie year. He caught 62 passes for 873 yards and 9 touchdowns. Since then his TD totals dropped to no more than two in a single season.

Claypool complained his way out of Pittsburgh and was traded to the Bears during the 2022 season. That didn't last long either and now he is with the Dolphins.

Why Chase Claypool could be in the right place at the right time with the Miami Dolphins.

With Waddle out, the Dolphins should turn to Claypool. Get him involved early or use him in what would be a similar role to Deebo Samuel in San Francisco. Miami could use his physicality and size to dominate over the middle on crossing routes.

Lately, Mike McDaniel seems to be hung up on throwing a fade pass in the end zone, Claypool is 6'4" and is a perfect WR for that play. So far, Miami hasn't used him at all.

It's unclear why Claypool hasn't been used and there could be something internal going on but this week, against a team familiar with the WR from his time in Pittsburgh, might be the right time to use him. Otherwise, what was the point of bringing him in?

Miami is likely going to utilize Cedrick Wilson more but Claypool plays more physically and should see the field more often given the Dolphins need a good blocking WR for the outside. This is where Claypool as been used mostly to this point. Hopefully, McDaniel will turn him loose this week and get him more involved in moving the chains.

Claypool has been 'ready' for a few games. Not sure why this should be a big game for him. - Mcd doesn't use big receivers

He doesn't want to play football. He wants the ball thrown to him so he can celebrate how great HE is but winning football this guy does not care about. Sad to see a person waste talent.
I don’t think that’s fair

But I don’t know him

He seemed very happy after our cowboy win

Coach has so refused to use him in a more serious way….

It’s not his fault….

I’ve been saying this…if Miami wants to win in Baltimore coach would be wise to SMASH MOUTH!

I 800 Julian Hill - 1-800 Chris Brooks - 1-800 Jawfree Wilson - 1-900 Chase Claypool - 1-800 Durham smytherines 1-800 A Ingold

The Ravens are all rocked out to focus on T Hill - I’d go big and heavy on their asses w some Achane and T Hill thrown in - but I’d go big and heavy till they stop it…
they also play the most light boxes in football

I think the hang-up is probably that lack of familiarity between Tua and Claypool. We all see that the connection between Tua, Waddle, and Hill is what drives this offense. Tua knows where they are going to be before they even get into their breaks. That takes time and effort. And Claypool joining mid-season hasn’t really afforded that time.

I think he could be used on simple routes (as others have mentioned - the fade). But that‘s about it.

I like what I’ve seen so far of Claypool. The few catches he has, he’s punished defenders. He’s also had a couple nice plays called back due to o-line penalties.

And we need Waddle back. That will really stink if he can’t go for the Bills game.
Shula would have LOVED this guy! Like Ferrell Edmonds - I big strong mf who can catch and mow people over!!!

I do miss Shula - he’d throw the kitchen sink at it - and it worked A LOT!!

something tells me you guys are gonna be really disappointed begging for Claypool. I just don’t see the attraction.

He doesn’t run great routes . He almost cost us int in patriots game weeks ago because he is not in the spot tua expects. Bad fit for this offense. More likely to see cracraft this week and chosen to be used as spacer to free up or clear space for others

I think a lot of you forgot about Cedric Wilson who has looked really solid in the second half of the season so far and is the definitive #3 WR on this team right now.

We have good depth is why Claypool hasn’t gotten a lot of reps. Nothing to be worried about, I’m sure he’ll contribute a bit more as the last few weeks come along.

Always liked Wilson, and yes, it will be Wilson over Claypool is what you’ll see. Wilson had injuries last season.

If that was the case he’d be off the team
