http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/articles/2007/06/dolphins-cameron-offensiveline140607.html Only the most optimistically ignorant of fans fails to realize that for years now, the Miami Dolphins have been trying to patch up a festering sore spot at the very core of their offense.

And no, it's not the quarterback position.

For the last decade or so, Miami's offensive line has ranged from mediocre to awful. Moreover, the lack of continuity from year to year has resulted in a critical lack of consistency and cohesion, and those shortcomings severely hindered production at virtually every skill position. The only exception to this underlying trend was the 2002 season, when the offensive line paved the way for Ricky Williams' 1,853 rushing yards and limited opposing defenses to just 25 sacks.

Good article. Right on the money.

It's a very optimistic article...I fail to see quite everything as rosy as the author does right now. How can we tell what the OL may or may not be when they haven't even put on pads together...Don't get me wrong, I like the direction and the way in which HH and Cam are moving, but until we see them in pads, what can really be said ???

Great article, and agreed that we needed a whole new approach. Even with the uncertainties and time to develop at least a new approach is being taken.

I'm sure the author was doing his best, but honestly was there anything remotely new in there.

of course I will get bashed for this. What is so new about his approach?
Its not like we brought in ain infusion of new talent. We spend one high pick one pick on a lineman and bring in more journeymen to fill the gaps. I truly think we could have spent two high picks on oline. I do think we got very lucky in rookie free agents so that may compensate for it. We will proabbly have 5 guys playing in new spots this year so who really knows how this will turn out.

Yeah like Wilson and Esera.
Both guys should make the team IMO, or they'll may make the PS.

I actually like these guys better than some we drafted like mauia and Morimino. althout Morimino has been a decent suprise also.

This is my biggest question mark into the year, the OL, and I've talked about it in years past. It's been the number 1 reason we haven't reached the playoffs in 5 years. No one really wants to put a lot of money into the OL and it's shown over the years. IMHO, we will start slow because we are again making changes to the OL, this is not to say they won't be a good OL, just that it takes a little time to jell. I'm somewhat optimistic because we kept 3 starters from last year, allbeit, in different positions, but I think their confidence is better because all three have starting experience. The key is now the center and LG being upgrades over last year, because we know what we have with the 3 remainers..Key, can Carey man the LT position, that is the key to where this line goes thoughout this season..Carey should have incentive to do good, If he excels, LT's pay checks are pretty large in this league, do you think that will motivate him? If he fails this line fails..

Good Points...

I thought the following points for the Dolphins directions were interesting and right on the point as well:

When you consider that the oldest O-line starter, L.J. Shelton, is just 30 years old and the next, Vernon Carey, is only 25, the direction Cameron is taking with this unit becomes profoundly clear. Gone are the days of quick fixes and free-agent Band-Aids. Instead, Cameron seems to be intent on building a youthful and dynamic line capable of properly setting the table for skill players like Ronnie Brown and Chris Chambers -- two guys who have never had the luxury of high-end blocking.

In addition, if this young line comes together the way Cameron wants it to, rookies Ted Ginn, Lorenzo Booker and John Beck will immediately benefit from the pass protection and running lanes provided.

And perhaps most importantly, newly acquired QB Trent Green, who is literally one good hit away from retirement (and post-concussion syndrome), stands to gain the most from strong offensive line play. Then again, one of the main reasons that Cameron chose Green over lame-duck Daunte Culpepper was Green's ability to get rid of the ball quickly. The former Pro Bowler's strongest asset is his cerebral approach to the game and clinical approach to getting rid of the football, and that, more than anything, will help this relatively young O-line find its groove.

my biggest concern too,it all starts up front, the offence needs this unit to perform well to see any improvement overall. carey is the key need a strong left tackle

We will know after about 4 games how this O-Line will do.
