A car crashed and overturned on the Church Street bridge over I-277 about 12:30 p.m. and ambulances were on the scene. A second car involved in the crash is also in the road, near Hill Street.

A man appearing to be Newton was seen strapped down to a stretcher, according to a WBTV report.

Newton did not suffer life threatening injuries in the accident and was conscious when he was transported to the hospital, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder.

"Further testing revealed that Cam Newton has two transverse process fractures in his lower back and no further internal injuries," the Panthers said in a statement Tuesday afternoon

So a friend of mine pointed me to Deadspin after this. The posts below the story are funny...but sad and cruel. Anyway they show Newton's truck...flipped it 4 times. Was a nice truck.

Yeah right. The roof is flat as a pancake and Cam broke his back. He's lucky he isn't paralyzed.

The truck probably wouldn't have flipped 4 times if it wasn't lifted like that. That's one of the dumbest things you can do to a vehicle.
