We're all starting to see what Cam Wake is capable of doing in rushing the passer, but my question is, how bad can he be at stopping the run? I know the guy has speed which makes him a productive pass rusher, but he seems to be a pretty big physical presence as well. Perhaps some grooming will be in order, but in the future, is it possible we see Cam Wake become an every down type of player, or does his skill set pigeon-hole him into being a career pass rusher?

You can teach run stopping technique. You can't teach heart. Wake seems to have the heart to want to be an all around great player. I'm guessing he's on the field full time next year.

time will tell. i haven't heard anything even remotely resembling that he is incapable of setting the edge, keeping his lanes, stuffing the run, covering the tight end or back out of the backfield or any other responsibility required of a SOLB or WOLB. of course it is possible he will only ever be a pass rusher, but at this point it seems like the sky is the limit for this kid.

Wake is a monster, a workout warrior. He's probably the strongest LB that we have, he's also easily the fastest. I just don't see any reason whatsoever why he wouldn't be able to play vs the Run, or drop into coverage for that matter. Hell Joey Porter is terrible vs the run and can't cover very well either, if he can be in there every down Wake sure as hell could.

On the contrary, Sparano said just a couple weeks ago that he thinks Wake needs to work on his "fundamentals" in order to play more. I don't know if that means dropping in coverage, reading/reacting, taking on blockers straight up, filling gaps, setting the edge, all the above, but he did say it.

Mind you, at the beginning of year he was saying Wake needed to improve his special teams play if he wanted to see the field. So who knows what the heck the real story is?

TS also said he needs to do a better job of getting Wake on the field more!

I believe the coaching staff is doing a wonderful job of exposing Wake to opportunties he can excel in while learning the rest of the game he needs to develope. I would bet he will be a starter next year, JT will be gone and I doubt JP has any trade value but could be held onto to ease the transition of our next drafted OLB.

I think they are 'seasoning' him.

They're toughening him up to be their type of player.

Next year he will probably take either JT or Porter's place.

i said "incapable." of course he needs work in those areas. my point was that he should be able to get the hang of them, eventually.

Can't be worse than the other guys they have now:rolleyes2:

To tell you the truth I don't value much this coach's opinion anymore. For all I know he might be spurting anything out trying to justify his prior decision-making:rolleyes2:
