Cam Wake Article

This still doesn't explain why he isn't playing more on passing downs and just rushing the passer when guys like JT or JP are doing it and getting nowhere. The thing I've noticed is when Either Joey or Jason get stopped they get stopped COLD nearly every time but when Wake is in even when he doesn't make a play or get to the QB he's pushing someone close to the QB or just causing them to be uncomfortable more times than not.

Agreed. But with JT banged up this week, maybe we'll get to see more of Cameron Wake. He definitely has some things to work on though and hopefully as time goes he'll improve them.

This was a great article. I love what Cam wake has been doing. He might not get a sack every time but hes ALWAYS disrupting the pocket and making QB's uncomfortable. I say this over and over and over again. But I do agree that he does need improvement. If he can learn how to stop runs and even some pass coverage he's gonna be unstoppable.

Remember that James Harrison from Pittsburg was cut two or three times in his first few years with the Steelers.

Once he learned the position, by being "patient and persistant",...............I would say we all agree that he is pretty damn good now.

The Patriots called audible to a running play on at least 4 of his reps. They gained 6+ yards each time. He is still a liability in the run game. At the end of the game or when it was 3rd and 12+, then he pressured Brady. I believe that 10-12 reps is the correct amount to get one or two impact plays from him.

Were all of those runs Wakes fault? How many times do we see JP get caught inside on a sweep, toss or counter play and the RB just runs right around the edge? Those plays could have very well happened whether Wake was in the game or not. Wake looks like their best pass rusher when he's in the game so he should be Rushing The Passer on Passing Downs.... it's really that simple.

According to profootballfocus, Wake was in for 3 running plays out of his 9 total snaps. His grade on the running plays was 0.0 which means he didn't do anything wrong or anything right on those plays (i.e. the plays were probably run away from him, so he was not a factor, good or bad, in those plays). Note that 0.0 is the average score in their scoring system.

Interestingly, out of his 6 pass rushes, he got 2 QB hits, which netted him a +2.0 score, which is excellent considering no one else on the entire team got a positive pass rush score, with the exception of Starks at +0.1.

I'm really finding profootballfocus to be an excellent resource, seeing as they review every single play in every game, and seem to have a pretty decent scoring system.

Wake's overall numbers for the year are really something. A +22.7 pass rush score is quite amazing given the limited playing time. Also his +1.0 on pass coverage and -0.5 for run defense would seem to indicate he's not a total flop in these areas, at least not in the very limited number of times he's had to do these things in a game...
