Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake has three Pro Bowls on his resume and gaudy sack numbers. He's earned team MVP honors in Miami, as well as a pair of Defensive Player of the Year awards during his stint in the CFL.

But there is one thing the 32-year-old Wake is still chasing in his accomplished football career: A postseason appearance. Wake has never played a down in the NFL playoffs during his five-year NFL career. He arrived from the CFL to Miami in 2009, one year after the Dolphins last made the postseason. Since then, Miami has a record of 35-45 with zero winning seasons.

Wake doesn't want to be remembered as one of Miami's greatest players never to reach the postseason. As players get older, they get wiser and more reflective. Wake said he recently talked to his younger Dolphins teammates about urgency this year and having a win-now mentality.

"I’ve been here with great teams, great players, and I haven’t been to the playoffs once," Wake said disappointingly. “So I’m trying to profess how hard it is to win in this league. It takes so much -- that extra rep, that extra bench press, whatever it may be -- to make that happen.

“For me, as you know, it’s the thing that’s eluded me so far in my career. I’m trying to do everything I can personally and for the team to make that happen this year.”

Offense has been horrific, pedestrian, and lame for years.

We haven't WR's like we have currently in ages.

Cams a beast.

Good to know Wake is on a mission, when players like that are on a mission, good things happen... Furthermore, when a player of this caliber starts to preach urgency to teammates, the message gets across. I expect big things from the DL this season...

Another example of wake being everything you want in an NFL player. But yea let's trade him while we can.

Wake is awesome. He wouldn't be remembered as the best player to never reach the postseason. He'd be remembered as one of the greatest defenders to ever put on a Phins uniform.

I love the confidence. Let's get the monkey off his back.

Reminds me alot of how many years we wasted with Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas just screwing around not not making a big step in the playoffs.

I feel for him like I did for JT and Zach.

Wake does not pound his chest. I like this. He comes to work, works harrd and does his job. He leads by example, not loud shouting.
Zachand JT had great teams, it is unfortunate they could not win it all like Danny too.

Good for him for aiming high.

However, he's being way too kind in his remarks. No Dolphins team he's been a part of has even sniffed the faintest whiff of greatness. That's not his fault, but that's the way it is.

Cam has the right attitude, but it I hear a lot people saying the offense has been terrible. The D has been terrible at times too. I remember there were points in time where we couldn't get off the field on third down. I used to dread watching us on third in long. It would be 3rd and 14 and we'd give up 30. I think that's changing now because we're bringing in guys that really want to compete week in and week out. Individuals busting their butt to win those individual battles lead to the team winning the war. Looking forward to seeing these guys compete!
