Cam Wake has always done right by the Dolphins and I highly hope and think we will continue to do right by him. If he wants to chase a ring, by all means let him go and wish him well. Hell, throw him a party at the stadium before he leaves, he's earned it. If he wants to stay for one year as a pass rusher and veteran leader for the youngsters, that's fine too, make him the offer and let him decide. We can use him in the rotation and he would be an asset in the locker room.
But one year is the limit, and make sure he understands that. We're turning over this roster and rebuilding a team to compete after Wake's time is up. That means we need to blood these youth with playing time to accelerate their learning. For the 2019 season, we'll hopelessly need people to rotate in for the pass rush, so no worries. We also have the cap space for one veteran like that, and Wake's earned it. But starting in 2020 we're playing for real, and we need those youngsters in the fire. So it's a one year contract as a rotational pass rusher. That's what we have to offer and we will not be offended if he decides to pursue his craft elsewhere. He can still come back for a day and retire a Dolphin.
This is a short-term solution, and really can only be a short-term solution. I'm sure Cam understands that.
