Cameron has high hopes for offense

I think he ought to have high hopes. There's talent there and if the receivers take to the system, especially Chambers, then this could go very well in 2007. I'm still worried about a secondary-led defensive backslide. But every day there seems to be more reason to see the offense scoring 20-21 points a game by themselves, with hopefully STs and the Defense contributing an additional 2 points per game.

One thing that struck me is I saw Cam's last rookie camp PC on the 26th. He talks about the offensive line.

Remember all these years, from Saban we've heard all this stuff about playing the best five guys no matter what position, finding a way to put the five most talented guys on the field?

It was subtle, but Cameron's philosophy flies directly in the face of that. I think it may be a point of disagreement with Houck, because I think Saban was just parroting Houck's philosophy on putting the best five guys out there.

But anyway what Cameron is saying, and it really makes sense when you put it together with how he's re-molded and re-shaped the offensive line...is he doesn't care who the five most talented guys are. All he cares about is putting the five guys that have the most chemistry together, because the offensive line is all about working together and chemistry. So, they're going to keep moving around guys and trying this and that, not looking for the best talent but looking for the best chemistry.

It's a departure, and when I'm listening to him talk about it I truly get the feeling that yeah...this guy really knows what he's doing in SHAPING an offense. Houck may know what he's doing in teaching the guys but I don't know that he's all that great at shaping the big picture. Shaping the big picture on offense is precisely where Cameron has impressed me most this off season.

Now let's see if he can be the offensive coordinator, play caller, AND head coach...and get away with it without making bonehead game day decisions.

''This year it's critical that I be involved [in the offense] and I will be involved more than I will be down the road,'' Cameron says. ``This is a starting point and I will work my way to back away from it eventually. I don't know when that will be. Maybe later this year, next year, in three years from now, I don't know.

``But until we can sustain it and get it to the right level without me, I'm going to be involved. And I'm ready to take the heat for any shortcomings we have on offense.''

This part was encouraging to me, since this is one of my worries. That he even mentioned the possibility of him stepping back from his OC duties some time later this year, to me means that he's got someone in mind that can call the plays or be more involved. Whether that someone is Terry Shea or Terry Robiskie, I don't know.

We should be able to score more than the 16 points per game from last year. I think Trent Green is going to be a nice sleeper pickup for those of you play fantasy football. I also look for Hagan to have a break out year, and with Olindo gone and Feely in we should hopefully get some more consistent field goal kicking. I think the main plus could come from getting better returns on our kickoffs....Ginn is going to be our Devin Hester. :)

If you take into account defensive touchdowns last year, the offense only scored about 14.9 points per game. That's just AWFUL.

I was thinking about that as well, I think he has a lot of respect for Robiskie, who's work with him a lot..so I was thinking they maybe more on the same page.. and I'm with you on the shaping of a OL, especially when he said way back that he had trouble with Hadnot at center, but when he was put at RG he didn't look too big anymore..so I could see a philiosophy coming together when he was saying that, and finally, a direction taking place on the OL.. I hadn't felt that before with our OL, it was always the best 5, but no philosophy behind where they placed.

Also remember the first sign that he was literally re-shaping the OL, when he moved the 330 pound pillars back out to tackle where he said they belonged.

Then he moves Hadnot to guard, drafts a 300 pound center like Satele...he reminds me so much of Norv. He has these profiles in mind and just really knows what he wants to see at every position.

I like what I see, but lets hope those profiles turn into on field production.

good point, but you know it also made me think, wait a minute, why did Houck let this get so out of whack, when he's supposed to be the OL guru? it one of those HMmmm..

Dude that spoke to me as well. I'd put that at a 9.9999999999999999999995 on my "digging it meter". I have the same management style at my job and it has brought me boatloads of success.

With that quote alone, I am a Cameron fan. Period. I would have defined myself up until then as a on the fence but leaning forward Cameron fan. I've now gone full bore.

Imagine if we field a top half or top ten offense with our D? Holy god! I've truly forgotten what it feels like to believe in our offense.

I almost feel like JJ knew that it would take forever to even suitably replace Dan and he took all these D players to keep us competitive in the meantime or maybe it's the beer talking.....

As long as its not Mularky we should be ok.

ya know what. I was completely against that ronnie brown call at the time.... but if we would have perfected that play, we would score every time. Ronnie Brown is able to get about two or three yards without any blocking. If he has the threat of him passing.... There is no way of defending that.

One of the things I didn't like about Saban was that he seemed to do what was popular or what others thought was the right thing to do. Cameron on the other hand is doing what he knows is right.

The proof is that he didn't draft quinn because everyone and their mother would have wanted him too. Saban, hands down, he drafts Quinn. Cameron went with his gut and drafted Ginn.
