http://www.realfootball365.com/nfl/articles/2007/07/dolphins-cameron-coordinatesuccess190707.html When the regular season rolls around in early September, the Miami Dolphins will be the only team not fielding an offensive coordinator. Instead, Cam Cameron will fill the role of both head coach and offensive play-caller, leading some to suggest that he's making a foolhardy decision that will leave him strung out and overextended.

Is that a fair assumption, though? Furthermore, is there any historical evidence that lends credence to Cameron's apparently egotistical decision to hold so many reins? Let's find out.

For starters, there are several NFL teams with offensive coordinators whose titles are more honorary than they are functional. Two teams that immediately come to mind are the Baltimore Ravens and Tampa Bay Buccaneers .

Interesting read however the article seems to dismiss Peyton success as purely a result of the talent he has to work with but doesn't mention the lack of talent in both Baltimore and Tampa. Plus the author mentions but gives little credit to the fact that both Tampa and Baltimore made serious super bowls runs with their HC serving as the OC.

Lastly both Tampa and Baltimore had dominant D's during those years which would mean that the offense did not need to put up gawdy numbers to be successful which is also why they weren't ranked as high.

Well at least Cam won't have any communication problems with himself, or have to take himself out of the "booth" and stand next to himself on the field.

I'm a little concerned about Cam being overloaded this season also. I hope he's outsourcing as many of his secondary priorities to the other coaches as he can and focusing on the primary things.

Maybe he could have one or two of the other coaches do some of the press related stuff sometimes. Maybe Randy Mueller could do some of those radio shows and all that. Cam probably should be spending alot of time in the film room in mad scientist mode spotting weaknesses in opposing defenses and coming up with ingenious plays to take advantage of it.

He might end up having to put a bed in his office though if things get tough and we're losing games. I hear that's what Gruden does. Let's just hope Cam can manage the workload and stress well and he does as well as Sean Payton did with the Saints last year. He should probably talk to the medical staff about how to exercise, take supplements and eat right and all that so he can deal with the stress optimally. We need his brain to be in excellent shape just like the players need to be in good shape physically and mentally. We don't want a sleep deprived, irritable, stessed out coach calling the plays on Sundays. He needs to have a certain amount of sleep and relaxation like the airline pilots do so he doesn't make mistakes.

If Cam and Trent get on the same page then the play calling and offensive duties will be much easier on Cam. A true field general that can relay information and communicate with the one calling the plays is what this team has lacked at the QB position for a while.

Actually the closest this team has come to having a QB and Coach on the same page is Gus and Scott L. The problem was that the line was still progressing.

With more speed at the skill positions, a improved O-Line, a more experienced Ronnie Brown, and a QB and Coach that speak the same lingo this team is poised to break out and score some freaking points.

The offensive coordinator duties will be run by committee. Cam will receive input/advice from all of the offensive assistants in coming up with a game plan each week. This will take a lot of pressure off Cam and allow him to concentrate more on calling plays on gameday.

Well Cam cant do any worse than Mike Mularky. Man was he a terrible OC last year. In between Mularky, the QB situation and Olindo a 6-10 should come as no big surprise to last years team. But with 2 out of those 3 gone i think we should have a better year this year even if it doesnt mean playoffs.

Cam knows OC. He has a a great DC and OL position coaches, so that takes away a lot of pressure. RM is good with personnel and drafting, plus Cam and RM have a great relationship, so that helps a lot. Because Cam has such great staff around him, I think it is a plus that he is calling the plays, because that is one of his strengths.

I love seeing these two work together. On NFLN Dolphins minicamps Cam and Randy were on field talking together. Im not sure how many NFL GM's actually attend these minicamps

Shame we can't be as blessed as Indy and have two offensive coordinators.

Actually don't forget about the Eagles. Andy Reid when he first started in Philly was the head coach and offensive coordinator as well for many a year. Then it changed last year when they actually brought in morhinweg to be offensive coordinator from the lions. So yes, being coach and OC does work and I think Cam will be fine. Like others, I trust him to do a lot better than Boo-larkey.

And dont forget Baltimore last year when Bilick fired Fassel and took over the playcalling duties. Their offense did about a 180 turn aorund after that
