This is not your first time. ... You've done this before. ... It's just a different-colored uniform and a little warmer. ... Get to the quarterback.

The words scrolled through Cameron Wake's mind in an endless loop on a steamy August night. He was about to play his first NFL preseason game, something he'd waited five years to experience. He didn't want to blow it.

Wake was a dynamic linebacker at Penn State, a captain. But when he left campus he might as well have fallen off the face of the earth. He wasn't drafted, and although he signed with the New York Giants, they cut him before training camp began.

So he floated. For years. He took a job shuffling mortgage papers, another as a personal trainer. A pro tryout got mixed in here or there. He assumed a new name.

Wake finally landed in the Canadian Football League and created enough of a ruckus to get another shot at the NFL.
:hi5:

Isn't he only signed for 2 years? I think they need to start thinking about a contract extension for this guy already. Wake is a 10+ sack guy with ample playing time so locking him up long term probably won't be cheap but it needs to be done sooner than later imo. If they give him lots of playing time next season and he has over 10 sacks he's going to cost an awful lot to re-sign and they might even have to think about the franchise tag.

Wake signed a 4-year deal

I was talking about Wake not JP..., you did the double back flip over Wake just to make a case that he deserved pre-season reps..., now look...

:lol2:

The truth is... it wasn't that long ago I actually WAS expounding about the value of JP on our roster... Before JT rejoined, before Wake came down from the north and before we really thought we had anything in Anderson... JP was the ONLY option and he played like he wanted to keep it that way. That was SO yesterday.

And yet... You and I stood shoulder to shoulder from the beginning about Wake having seen at least some games in the CFL... It was hard not to be excited about the kid and it didn't really take much of an eye (or so we thought) to see the kid had real skills it was only a matter of translation to the American game.

I'm very happy to see him get recognition even a little... Not because it might prove us right but because he DESERVES IT... It has been a long road for him just to get to the starting line!!!

That journey... through Giants training camp, being a citizen and then to the CFL should be a badge of honor... This guy wants it more than most... That obvious desire combined with obvious skills might actually be the reason he has impressed JT to the point of saying 'he can do things... we can't'.
