Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake (91) during Miami Dolphins practice at Dolphin Camp on Saturday, July 26, 2014.

For foodies, a trip to Italy is basically heaven on Earth.
For Cameron Wake, it was the ultimate test of willpower.
“I tasted,” Wake said of his late-summer swing through Europe. “I figured, ‘When in Rome … .’ But the food over there is very rich. I can tell that [it was] not on my diet, so I just had a taste.”
That prodigious discipline might be what keeps him in the league for years to come.
Wake turned 32 this offseason, which is usually the danger zone for pro athletes. He’s older than 90 percent of the league — and a full decade more seasoned than Ja’Wuan James, the rookie Dolphins tackle he battles every day in practice.
And yet, Wake has looked like the kid, consistently schooling James with power and quickness. During Day 2 of training camp Saturday, Wake again beat James for a sack, one of a handful surrendered by the Dolphins’ line.
“His speed and his hands,” James said when asked what has surprised him about Wake. “He’s really good at his craft.”
Added Dolphins coach Joe Philbin: “The one thing I really appreciate about Cam Wake is the fact — obviously, we want the production and performance on game day — but he does a great job in practice.”
Maybe because Wake still believes nothing is given, even after reaching the Pro Bowl in three of his five NFL seasons. His circuitous route to the NFL — out of football for two years, then a two-year stint in Canada — makes him seem a lot younger than he is.

What more needs to be said? Easily, the best player to come out of the Ireland era!

What I don't understand is why NFL teams didn't draft him coming out of Penn State? He was trained by Joe Paterno and taught the right way, but then went undrafted. Every NFL teams' Draft experts (all 32) couldn't see Cam's potential. The Giants gave him a shot and then cut him in Training Camp. His truly great decision was to believe in himself and then head to Canada.
It is a pretty incredible story of overcoming obstacles and maybe worthy of a movie. When I hear that Tim Tebow refused to play football in Canada because it was inferior and that he really should be playing in the NFL, I think of Wake and the success he has had from the Canadian opportunity.

He certainly doesnt have the mileage on his body that most 32 year olds have.

Considering the way he takes care of his body and his late arrival to the league, I believe it. He has a couple of prime years left in him.

The dude is a physical freak with an insane work ethic, he will be around for awhile barring injury.

Barring serious injury, 32 is not past prime. Serious speed/reaction time decline does not start until age 34-35.

Ok Juwuan, welcome to the NFL buddy. Here is your gear, lets' get on the field! You're gonna be our starting tackle, you're going up against Wake daily now. Have fun!!

When he does final slow down (years from now) and decides to retire and hang up his Dolphins uniform, he needs to stay around as a strength/conditioning advisor/coach. His experience in that area is priceless.
