Dolphins OLB Cameron Wake is expected to take on the nickel pass rushing role held by Charlie Anderson last season.
Wake would enter in passing situations, with Joey Porter moving over to replace Matt Roth on the strong side. Wake's long arms and explosive first step made him the two-time defensive player of the year in Canada.

rotoworld cracks me up....

their title should read:
Dolphins OLB Cameron Wake is expected by Omar Kelly to take on the nickel pass rushing role held by Charlie Anderson last season.

I know they credit the source at the bottom, but they represent it in a way that if you don't click the link, you think there is some credible source for the information, rather than just the opinion of one writer.

omar kelly i sometimes find trying to jump on things way to quickly to be first out with something... sometimes without any or much credibility in it.

but i can see this occurring as well though on the field.... especially if he doesn't win out the every down OLB position

Why would they take Joey away from his natural position rushing out of the QB's blind side? That wouldn't make any sense, making Porter as effective as he can be is priority #1, Wake will have to learn to rush opposite of Porter

Actually, it doesn't matter. On Nickel packages, its the same....RUSH THE PASSER. The only reason Porter is better on the ROLB is because their they rush MORE OFTEN than attempt to stop the run or drop back. That's all.

On 3rd downs, in a NICKLE package you have an extra DB so that the rushers can rush the passer on a blitz type package. Obviously they feel Wake is probably a bit stronger than POrter and will be his eventual replacement. So putting him on the spot where the LT is means a lot of how they see Wake. Cool.

I wanna see Wake take on Long....that will be a good indicator.

It was posted by Omar Kelly.

Omar simply said that he "suspects" that Wake will be used in tandem with Roth, with Roth playing in running downs and Wake on passing downs. This is not an unreasonable take given Roths success in setting the corner last year and Wake's insane sack production in Canada.

However, I "suspect" that Wake will demonstrate a physical superiority over Roth in all phases of the game and win the start.

I'd hope Cameron Wake could overtake Charlie Anderson. If he doesn't, that's says something because I think Anderson might struggle to make the 53 man this year.

when charlie anderson wasn't getting flagged for holding or jumping offsides last year, he actually showed potential.

I think what they want to do with Joey is get him moved around some on passing downs. What happened to him late last yr is team's new were he would line up most of the time so they were able to help with chip blocks and setting up the pocket a few yards away from him to give the QB more time. With him being on the other side he will mix up his drop backs and blitzes. If Wake can become a force, look out, Porter just might get 20 sacks this yr...........

Rushing from the strongside or the weakside has very little to do with the LT. It has more to do with the offensive formation and what the defense considers the strongside.
