I'd like to think that, including a guy we've brought in with Michael Thomas, our training camp competition should yield a pretty good group to put on the field next season. I still think we really need the one alpha dog in Grimes, but I think with the rest of our guys their's enough talent to produce a solid secondary.

Guys definitely made strides this year, including guys who I thought were just bums before. Jimmy Smith and Nolan Carroll, specifically made big strides and seem like legit players for depth and in nickel/dime coverage. Nolan Carroll got to a point where I was OK with him lining up as a starting corner. He always had the ability but he was just so raw that it took him a long time to become instinctive as a true cover-corner. I think he's at least an average Starting corner right now. I think it allows us to not sign Patterson (which I hate but salary cap is salary cap).

We can hope, and I'd be surprised if Jamar Taylor isn't finally over his sports-hernia by this summer. He was a guy that people were high on and likely has a chance to really compete for a corner spot with Carroll or be a very valuable nickel-cover guy.

We might still need a true free safety, and I still think of Reshad Jones as a better strong safety.

What say you,, finheaven?

#27. Isn't that Jimmy Smith?
Oops.
Anyway, #27. That's who I'm talking about.

If I didn't know 27 was Jimmy Wilson after being called on it I would of googled it. That's just me however.. :chuckle:

I agree with the need for resigning Grimes. We need that one, clear-cut star leader that other teams have to gameplan for. He doesn't really 'take away half the field', but he does punish teams who challenge him too many times.

Grimes and Clemons are must signs. Can't afford to fix that this year when we have to use so many picks/money on Oline. Besides both played well this year, better than their counterparts

We need to keep drafting corners and another safety until we have a great unit. Signing Grimes is a must. Sign Clemmons to another 1 year deal and draft his replacement. It seems like we never have enough depth. We sign Richard Marshall, then we trade Vontae, then Marshall gets hurt. This year we let Sean Smith walk, sign Grimes, then cut Marshall. We got nothing from the rookies this year and I can't bear to watch Nolan Carroll start another game!!!

Our competition might actually be very brutal. Grimes is a FA, as is Carrol and Clemons. That's 3/4 of the guys in our secondary that started most of our games. Patterson is always injured and may even get waived-this could be fun.

I thought our secondary was our biggest strength this year on D. It's the run game we need to work on. If we can keep our secondary in tact and get better at stopping the run; we will be in good shape on D next year.
