Not sure if this is the apropriate thread, but the Saban working with the DB's got me wondering, will he be calling the Defensive plays or allow the DC to do that?

Seaufan

my guess is that he is just working more with the positions that need the most help.

Saban stated after he hired Richard Smith to be the Def. Coordinator that he will be a part in the defensive process, which included implementing the schemes and play calling.

First off, it was damn hot out there.

-DT Manny Wright did not practice.

-LB Junior Seau was out there but didn't practice, again.

-O-line worked on drills where they would practice picking up stunts. It was 2 v 2's.

-Vernon Carey had a pretty solid practice, he seems to be getting more comfortable each practice. I think he's gonna work out fine at LT.

-McIntosh seems to lose his balance and whiff run blocking a lot.

-McKinney had his lunch eaten again today by Traylor and others.

-Hadnot was impressive again today.

-The QB's were about even as far as I can see. Rosenfels had some nice throws.

-rookie TE from Troy State Joe Munson hurt himself blocking. He had to be helped off.

-Tebucky Jones has a red jersey on, what's his injury?

-Saban was, as usual, working closely with the CB's. Giving them specific instructions.

-The coaching staff as a whole is much more intense than last year. This year it's "get the fu#$ back in the huddle." "Let's fuc%^* go!" None of that last year.

-George Edwards is a guy I like. He works with the LB'ers. He has a lot of energy and does a good job giving clear instructions.

-Donald Lee had a couple nice catches today after dropping some yesterday.

-That's all folks.

i am really started to get concerned with center position. McKinney had his lunch given to him all last year. maybe wade can step up or somebody. ??

man, the QB's still haven't seperated from each other and McKinney struggling again both are frustrating but it still is early. I'm happy to hear Vernon Carey is playing well though, that's what i want to hear this early in camp. Some positive news! :)

Thanks for the update. The offensive line insights are especially appreciated. Sounds like Seth McKinney is playing himself out of the starting lineup and Damion McIntosh out of the league. I think we're shaping up as a right-handed running team behind Hadnot and McDougle.

I haven't read word one so far about John St. Clair. Is he even on the team any more?

too early to say QB'S are doing this or that, we will know in about two weeks if we have someone or not, hadnot is only a RG, and yes mckinney may be the only weak spot on the line, smack in the middle

I'm getting real sick of reading about McKinney. Surely Saban sees it and will fix our center position.

Hadnot has only been at RG. St. Clair has been working with the 2nd team at RG.

I bet by the end of camp, Wade Smith is our starting center.

Is Hadnot practicing exclusivly at the RG position?

Yup and I want him to win that battle with St Clair also. St Clair is a free agent after the season where as Rex Hadnot is signed incredibly cheap through 2007. Salary cap wise he fits that goal of having cheap lunch pail guards.

And Houck is a master at it. look at what he did with 2 rookies and 3 other O lineman that nobody had heard of last season in San Diego. Turned em into a solid OL. Lets hope for some Houck magic.

At LSU, Saban always worked with the defensive backs. That is his thing so he will always do that. He will let the defensive coordinator call the plays, using Saban's system/philosophy. But he does have "veto power" and will use it if he wants to. Insiders at LSU state he only overruled Muschamp a few times last year.

That's all I've read. Houck did say that Rex could play either center or guard equally welll. He said that, however, in talking about physical suitability, not regarding skill.
