On certain occasions interim coach Dan Campbell taps Marino for advice, and Campbell appreciates the contribution. Sometimes.
“What he contributed the other day, I guess the day before the game at New England,” Campbell said with a smile, “we were getting ready for the game and something happened on his phone and he couldn’t get it turned off, so it was very distracting.”
But seriously…
“Just to have Dan Marino around, first of all, he’s a guy’s guy, he’s one of the greatest that’s ever played this game,” Campbell said. “I don’t care who it is, or what profession it is, when you have people in the building that are (legendary) you’re kind of surrounding yourself with greatness, so that in itself has been an asset to have him.”
And, yes, Campbell does go to Marino for insight, sometimes on quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
“How much have I done of that?” Campbell said. “A little bit. I would say I have asked his input on just quarterbacks and Ryan, and, ‘What about this?’ and, ‘Is there anything you would say about it?’ or, ‘Anything different that you would do?’
“So those things, certainly, I ask him questions. I don’t do it every day, but there will be things that I do run by him. He’s got a wealth of knowledge himself.”
