I don't want to give up on this year yet. I want to think we can fix this O-line. Does anyone have any good ideas on how this can be done?

I don't want any bashing of anything in this thread. No culpepper talk, no wr talk, no defense talk. I want ideas of how fixing the OL this year might be possible.

Before the game, I wondered if moving McIntosh to RG might be a good idea. He started all last year at LT. Get the best 5 guys out there. Guess I was wrong.

Unless you can make a trade for someone, you either keep plugging away and try to get better, or keep swapping out players and try to find a better combination.

i would love if we could find a combination on the oline that could work or pull out a trade to help fix our oline, however i feel with all the injuries on the oline that we just dont have much to work with to get much better

Our O-linemen on the roster are as follows
64 Jacox, Kendyl C/G
65 Berger, Joe G
66 Hadnot, Rex C
69 Darilek, Trey C
70 Shelton, L.J. T
72 Carey, Vernon T
76 Whitticker, William G
77 McIntosh, Damion T
78 James, Jeno G
79 Alabi, Anthony T

Our starters now are - Shelton,James, Hadnot, Mcintosh, Carey
Our Starters last year were - McIntosh, James, Mckinney, Hadnot, Carey

The only real significant difference I see in this line is Mckinney. I refuse to believe that he was that good of a player to cause this. The only thing I can see is that he knew the calls better then Hadnot. If that is the cause of this horrid blocking we have seen then I say take the line calls away from Hadnot. Maybe even put hadnot at RG and hopefully we can find a capable player to fill that spot (doubtful).

That is the only difference I can really see..... I dont know enough about o-lines to know if that is truly the problem, but it seems the most logical...

I was thinking about this since last game. last season we only had 26 or something sacks. now were on pace for 80 sacks this season its disgusting. We have had injuries but honestly 5 sacks a game is to much and this team better figure something out

Stop bashing the O-Line and put it on the Idiot behind center..... Stop being apologetic towards our QB....

I have no idea how to fix the o-line, Maybe you can't unless you bring in other players. These guys just don't have the talent.

Sober up and come back later. I made this thread to discuss our main problem and maybe come up with an idea about how it might be fixed. I didn't want any bashing here.

maybe berger can have some sort of positive impact,, i really don't know but it is killing us and will continue to cost us games without improvement.. will toledo be back at all this season?? i know i'm reaching

I dont think he will be back. I think we placed him on IR.

I was just thinking, how about Alabi at RT and Carey at RG. Carey played pretty well at RG when he was there. It is a desperate move and i am wondering how alabi will be.

i had high hopes for alabi but have not heard much about him this camp/season

Bashing... That's exactly what you're doing....DA!!!!

I think we need to get rid of Houck...he is just not getting the job done. We need to start the same people more than a few games at a time. Last year we had a decebt o-line. This year we go out and get "upgrades"...which turn out to be losers who can't even stay on crappy teams. Houck should know this. I say it is time to start investing in offensive linemen, instead of trying to get a cheap price on a below average player...that is one thing Saban needs to uinderstand in the NFL.

See, I think Saban understands this. He just can't upgrade every position to his liking in one off season. I also think Houck should stay, he did a great job last year. He has also done great jobs for other teams with very little. I think there is hope, although very little, that he can fix this mess this year.

We do need to spend all FA and draft going after o-linemen though.
