Winning the Superbowl is all that matters. You don't give a team a "slight" edge because of it, you give a team the entire edge because of it. If SuperBowls didn't matter, the 2007 Patriots team would be the greatest of all time. They beat the Giants 9 times out of 10 IMO but that isn't what happened. What makes this sport great is that on any day, any team can win. And that's what makes the playoffs so much fun. Were the Giants even the 3rd or 4th best team last year? Honestly, I doubt it. The 49ers had some SERIOUS bad luck, the Ravens were absolutely robbed of their SB shot and the Patriots proved again and again that if you've got Brady, you've got a chance.
But all that doesn't matter. You need to capture lightning in a bottle, and the Giants have done that, TWICE, in 5 years. No more excuses, the Giants are elite while the Jets are a footnote, just like the Dolphins. You're quick to give the Jets credit for improbable runs (both of their AFC Championship runs) yet quick to discredit the Giants for theirs. Why? Is it because the Giants had theirs run a little bit longer, enough to make history? I think so.
