Almost everyone has been saying that Trent Green's success in KC was due to the surrounding cast. Adam Best from realfootball365.com analyzes who Green worked with in KC compared to who he will work with in Miami. He also wonders if the concussion Green had last year has finished his confidence...

"There comes a point in every good QB's and kick returner's career when they decide that they don't want to absorb hits any more. Trent Green has perhaps reached that point. Miami had better hope not."

I like the fact that he points out that KC's O-line was not that good the last couple of seasons and that their receiver corp was inferior to the Phins' one. I disagree with him because I think that the gap between Ronnie Brown and David Martin with Priest Holmes/Larry Johnson and Tony Gonzalez is big.
Thoughts?

I think the weaker supporting cast is largely referring to his receivers. Eddie Kennison is the best of the group and that a'int saying much.

We only need to eek one more year out of him anyways. I don't think his skills have eroded as much as everyone likes to think. I was personally sad to see Herm Edwards leave the Jets...never thought much of the guy as a coach in NY or KC.

I think the majority of Green's decline was due to Herm's offense. Green will be back in the style of offense he thrived in for so many years. The OL has question marks, but Green's decision making ability and quick release should make him work well behind it. Ronnie is no LJ, but he is still someone defenses need to account for in a mojor way. Who knows what kind of TE he will have in Martin... we can only hope there. As MrTree said, the WR's will be a big upgrade. There is a lot of potential here and I am feeling the excitement!!!

I like Green's release and smarts. We have not had a QB who can read a D like Green since Dan. So I think he will help us mentor Beck this year and get us over the hump to the future.

Eroding O-Line? Compared to our O-Line, the Chefs line of the last couple of years looks like the freakin Cowboys of the 90's..

The WR thing might be even more offset than mentioned. The Chefs had NOBODY really at WR. A triple WR set and perhaps even a 4 WR set (Ginn or Az-Hakim) will be night and day what he had in KC.
Not having Gonzales will be a tough tangible, but Ronnie is a great reciever out of the backfield...

My thoughts exactly, the Dolphins are better off with a healthy Green then a crippled Culpepper who couldn't even side-step a pass rusher. I haven't seen a Dolphins quarterback get sacked so much since Damon Huard was at the HELM..:bye: C-PEP

IMO comparing QB's to punt returners is a bad comparison. Punt returners get hit way more. Qbs have a line blocking and can always get rid of the ball to avoid a hit which are reasons QB is one position where you can be declining and still have success.A quality veteren can also make up for loss of physical play(he hasnt declined that badly) with use of knowledge and experience.IMO the mental aspect of QB is more important than the physical.

Count on the fact that Cam and Hud KNOW our O-line is a work in progress... They will design schemes to utilize Green's assets (accuracy and quick release) coupled with a balanced running attack and it should translate in Green taking less hits.

I don't see Green in decline. You can't compare his stats for last year to the other years at KC. Herm Edwards installed a more conservative offense and reduced the passing game, also, he was out injured for 8 weeks.

IF our Oline plays good Green can return to his old form. Add that to our defense we could be pretty good (if the offense gels).

Well this may very well be true, but I don't think Green would be playing if he was affraid to get hit. Quarterbacks dont have a lot of time on any play. He has been playing the position for a lot of years and he know what comes with the position. Trent Green has the mental foritude to handle the position. But this is just my opinion as the above is the author of the article.

As far as receivers the Chiefs haven't had any stellar receivers except TG. Hall, Parker, and who ever else they had line up haven't been great. The Chiefs have always had a pretty decent o-line with solid veterns, so I am sure this is why Trent has been able to spread the ball out and not have an exceptional go to guy other than TG.

:hi5: see now, this is Kool Aid I'm drinking.

One of the very first things out of Cleo's mouth at his presser was Cam emphasizing getting the ball OUT. Unlike moooolarky, Cam thinks and adapts with his playcalls, I believe you are correct in pointing out their skills at this.

Damon Huard actually played farely well as he filled in, I am not sure what you are talking about. Many, including myself and Marino actually, wanted Huard to win the starting job over fielder. Marino was heavily in favor of Huard. And last year Huard did quite well filling in for Green in KC. 11 td's to 1 int and a 98 percent qb rating isnt all that bad. Culpepper was the worst qb getting sacked that I have seen by far. No comparison if you ask me.

With all of that said though, I agree with the premise of your post.

During Greens good years KC averaged between 26 and 30 PPG and that was with the WR crew that he had there. During the same time frame Miami averaged between 16 and 19.5 PPG. The 19.5 PPG came the year Gus was our QB (2005). All of this was with the bad O-Lines. My feeling is that Green can get us into the low to mid 20's. That should get us into the play offs.
