Can Henne call audibles ?

When I read the title I thought you were asking if he knows how to do it. I would have said probably not. Seriously though, that's a good question. But I bet you if Dan Marino in his third year wasn't allowed to and he seen something on D , I bet you my pay check he would have called an audible. If Henne wasn't allowed to maybe it is because they don't trust him to make the right call.

Henne not being allowed to call audibles tells me that they don't trust him and that's an extension of the film room.

That has "Henne can't read defenses at the line" all over it.

don't know. we won't know until the preseason, maybe he gets practice with it then?

well, if you watch the games and rewatch them. You see Henne changing something at the LOS. doesnt mean he read anything real or what. He just may have changed something for the sake of changing something. Peyton Manning would often change at LOS and if you were paying attention at all, you would notice that about 75% of the time, it was changed to a run. He was changing something to show the defense he was changing something when in reality, he was not. Everyone on offense knew the playcall. It was a run. Manning was making it look like he was switching up to a diff pass route.

Often times, its not whether the Qb can read a defense or not but whether the WR sees the blitz coming and does a hot read to change without even audibilizing. Its an eye to eye thing.

They were doing this the other day in practice. Hot reads. Guess who the guy Henne was doing it with mostly? Not Marshall, but Gates and Hartline that one day. The WR who shows the smarts at picking it up with the QB will get the rock.

Marino -----> Duper Clayton. They were great at playing mindgames with CB's at LOS and reading blitzes. Alot of the times, they would just run there usual route cus Marino was so fast getting the ball out it didnt matter.

Henning believed in rolling di and making a call. I am not sure Henning would be into audibles since he was so unpredictable (Belechick said so). In reality, Henning was very predictable.

If he had no confidence in Henne to audibilize, then he did not prepare him well at all in my book. You have to take the horses to the water.

Under Henning no he couldn't, but I remember one of the coaches saying yes Henne will now have a set audibles he can call in this new offense. However common sense tells me because of how little of the new playbook has been and will be installed it would have to be a very limited set of plays.

Predictable in 2010, not 2009. The only thing that changed from 2009 to 2010 was Hennings long time friend the TUNA was basically pushed out out of the picture after he drafted Pat White.

good topic .i guess you can see it both ways henne is not up to par or the coaches just dont wnt to get away from their game plan

It thought he had the ability to change a play to a run or a pass in hennings offense and choose run often

Henne could change the blocking scheme but he couldn't change the play or call options.

Under henning, his audible selection was the equivalent of the play selection in techmo bowl except it was a draw, trap and punt.

Actually, Henne had a higher passer rating when blitzed than he did overall. He was actually very effective when blitzed. That tells you right there that he does a good job of pre-snap reads.

Henning's offense did not have audibles. Sometimes, Henning would call "check with me" plays. Those are plays where you call a pass and a run, and based on the pre-snap read, the QB lets the rest of the offense know which to go with. According to Sparano, Henne did an excellent job with his pre-snap reads on those plays.

The new offense allows the QB to change the play at the line if he sees something he wants to exploit.

Not allowing audibles is not an indictment of the QB. Many times it's an indictment of the supporting cast or a conservative coaching staff. If you'll remember, JJ took away Marino's ability to audible when he turned the offense over to Kippy Brown. JJ said that Marino would audible to plays that were in the playbook, but not that week's gameplan, so you'd wind up with some guys knowing what to do, and others not knowing what to do. So, JJ took that option away from him.

Zowie ... Several years & thousands of threads on Henne of every aspect of his play ... and the majority doesn't even know what/how/why Henne's actions & responsibilities are!! Just ZOWIE!!

QBs under Henning didn't audible because Henning's playbook was written in latin.
