It doesn't matter if you had drafted Brady Quinn or Ted Ginn Jr or John Beck or Adrian Peterson. It wasn't Parcells draft pick. He's going to do what he wants. If he had felt Quinn was a guy he liked, he'd stick with him regardless. If he didn't, he wouldn't have. Ditto with Beck. Parcells doesn't care if he was the 9th overall pick or a 2nd rounder, it wasn't his draft pick so it's not like he's blowing his own investment. If he felt Quinn would be the answer, he'd play him. If he feels Beck is the answer, he'll play him. He could just very easily say, "Hey, I know he was a high first/second round pick but he wasn't my selection."
In 1992, with the 13th pick, the Patriots selected T Eugene Chung. He played in 1992 under MacPherson, and then in 1993 and 1994 under Parcells before he was sent packing. 13th overall pick, wasn't picked by Parcells, in three years gone (he ended up playing two more season in the NFL). In 1996, with the 1st pick in the second round, the Jets under Kotite selected WR Andy Van Dyke (after taking Keyshawn with the first pick overall). He played 1997 and 1998 under Parcells (catching 8 passes), was sent packing, and two years later was out of the league (kind of a trend, eh?). Bottom line is Parcells frankly doesn't care. It wasn't his pick so there's no need to see it blossom. If it doesn't work out he's not worried about trying to make it work. He's always about win now and worry about the future after he's gone. If he feels Beck is the answer to winning now, he'll give him the shot. If he feels he's not and it's Matt Ryan or Brian Brohm or Chad Henne or Joe Flacco or Chris Simms, he'll do that. One thing Parcells doesn't care about, is fan perception.
Should've selected Patrick Willis at #9 anyways.
